Finally finished the volume after chipping away at it for 2 months.
I don’t have the precise number of vocab cards I ended up mining due to switching from JPDB to Anki during reading, but it’s easily 1k+ (probably close to 1.4-1.5k). The final day alone (28 pages) had me mining 172 cards 
Not gonna lie, the final sub-chapter (after the performance) got me pretty emotional. Probably a mix of the story itself, it being the final stretch of a long effort, and the fitting music (oyasumi and Ray -Over the Rainbow- by FATE GEAR).
I’ll definitely continue with the series, it seems like a waste to quit now (not that I wanted to). It’ll be interesting to see how difficult volume 2 is. I hope it takes a bit less time

Sounds like quite the achievement! And glad to hear you’ll continue 
I can’t promise volume 2 will get much easier, but you already have everything you’ve picked up on during vol 1, and that will definitely give you a leg up
