2nd volume of series - 続 恐怖のむかし遊び - 2.3 look-ups/page, 14.9 % zero look-up pages, currently L24. So for me, it was slightly easier than volume #1 of the series, or e.g. 四つ子ぐらし 1
I liked it very much. After reading about 20 pages I couldn’t stop until I finished a story. So it took me just four days to read the book. It’s a horror book, for sure, and it’s one without happy ends, well at least not for the humans.
From Monday onwards, I will continue to read some stories in
ボッコちゃん but probably not be able to finish the book, before I finally start volume #3 of my benchmark series 狼と香辛料 about ten days from now. That’s the good side of a short story collection, you can pause it any time and do not need to worry about forgetting plot details.
You’re doing fine, you’ve got other slow fish in the pond with you! I’m still working through my first 2 bingo books I started at the beginning of the year, and it will probably be another month before I finish either of them.
Updated Where I’ve lived and One-Word Title. I’ve also decided to redo “New genre to me” and “New Level to me” again so that I can fill the card with books that I like.
yeah I am a slow reader (even in my native language in English)…but slow and steady is just my pace …
I’m reading a bunch of things at once so will be stamping out bingo squares slowly … I do really want a blackout but that’s looking to be impossible unless I somehow become super fast or something magic happens.
Yeah it was actually a rec from saiba over on wk. So ordered all of them and have been wanting to read but (my library of wanting to read is kind of out of control) so made a bingo square - excuse to start it!
The story isn’t exactly happy but it def sucks you in. Both of them have some significant emotional damage (by the title - of course they do) so not really spoiler. It’s not scary in like haunted house scary, but it’s definitely twisted/disturbing psychological horror.
I did find some of the Japanese vocab to be a little difficult for my reading level, occasional wall of text bubbles stopping for lookups, then a lot of pages with low text density or easy text, so at least for me - the Japanese sometimes wasn’t “easy” per say but easy to go fast (not wanting to put it down really helped finish 264 pages in 6 readings.)
Since my last update, I moved things around a bit and finished 마지막 증명 and 불편한 편의점. 마지막 증명 is a short but surprisingly low comp sci-fi story that I would cautiously recommend if your comp isn’t much lower than mine was (96%). 불편한 편의점… I did this book dirty by dropping it 2 years ago or so after only reading 30 pages. I really liked it. If I finish a bunch of books I dropped, I might move it to “favorite color cover” because the cherry blossom edition (the one I own) is really quite pretty. I would also cautiously recommend this one, but only if you like slow, thoughtful stories or your reading level is high enough to get through it easily. Back when I dropped it, I was a lot worse at reading and I wasn’t willing to slowly trudge through to get to the payoff.
What’s next? No idea lol. I want to finish 천 개의 파랑 (getting dangerously close to dropping this one for a second time), 언젠간 잘리고 회사는 망하고 우리는 죽는다, and 눈물을 마시는 새. Books in my library that I could see myself realistically picking up are 백야행 1 (I’m hankering for some 히가시노 게이고), 비밀, and 한여름의 방정식. I still have two squares I could fill with translated fiction LOL.
Okay so I have serious doubts about how well this is gonna go as my reading time is limited this year, but I was inspired to make my own bingo card (late start) so here it is.
I hope you’ll forgive the custom board - several of this year’s prompts I didn’t feel applied to me, so I chose some I liked and added some others on the spot.
I’ll make it prettier later if I get the chance. For now, here’s the link to my card on bingobaker.
Finally finished 雪の森 for the “Natively, no ratings” prompt (it’s a short story but it took me a lot longer than anticipated due to lack of Furigana, Kanji for Hiragana words and the vast number of lookups I had to do from my own lack of vocab). Was not quite what I expected from the cover (probably should have read the blurb info first ) but I really enjoyed it once I was able to understand most of it.ended up switching to kindle version for quicker look ups (I rarely read ebooks nowadays because of the issues long term screen use cause me).
Favourite colour? - スマホを落としただけなのに | L28
I’m not sure I know my favourite colour lol. But I really like the colours on this cover, both the orange and turqoise pop for me.
