👨‍❤️‍👨 BL Book Club 🎓 BL University 📚 Next: こいものがたり

give me a sec I would love to recommend popular works by each

I would also like to add Taishi Zaou (Princess Princess) and Eiki Eiki (Color) since I just remembered some of their works as well lmao
Nangoku Banana was also Taishi Zaous assistant once upon a time

I added this to the list description:

Volume count includes all officially-published books, such as separate seasons/arcs and extras, but excludes doujinshi.

But of course that could change if people want it to. :slightly_smiling_face:

As for stuff to do for EWC:

  • check if any entry is missing related anime/manga/etc that had translations at the time (I’ve added all the ones I’m aware of)
  • change some entries to series rather than volume (applies to newly-added stuff that’s waiting for approval or hasn’t populated yet)

How could I forget? Aren’t they besties IRL, too?
Princess Princess maybe? Love Stage?

Princess Princess is Taishi Zaous baby but Love Stage is the both of them!!!
They had a whole bunch of things done together lmao
They even had a Death Note Doujinshi done together that was hilarious

Added to the list

I was thinking be more explicit in the description for that work. For example, what would I be looking for for the rest of those 74 volumes? Fanbooks? Side stories? Etc.

Daaang, I just remembered I started that series and never finished. It’s sitting on my Kindle, even, waiting…

I didn’t realise that was a collaboration! :astonished:

Also:

  • Add a list of other works by the author that were published at the time (maybe only official) and link to natively page

Yeah, we could do a breakdown of the volume count (when we get to that week). Possibly include publisher pages that have that info: 富士見二丁目交響楽団シリーズ | 角川ルビー文庫 | KADOKAWA

remembered another Mangaka, Yamakami Riyu - Hashire! Oujisama (published 2001)

edit: can we have some active list like a google doc or something, I feel like I’m spamming each time lmao

That would probably be best for overall organization… Especially with other list suggestions randomly tossed in.

I can create the google doc in about an hour if anyone hasn’t done so by then.

Okay, here we go! This is super rough, but should have most of our in-progress notes for stuff:

The forum was down for 1 day and there’s almost 100 new posts  I’ll try to catch up since I’m interested in the BL university posts!

Why everyone always calls out my boy Yoshida like this :sob: Ah, I used to really enjoy アイツの大本命 a couple years back… or more than a couple, I’m getting old

Haha, I loved this one! I think this is also one of her better known if not the most known work overseas, so it seems representative to me. Eiki eiki I wasn’t such a big fan, so I’m not sure which of her manga is representative.

Also I’m a bit surprised at how organized it got here suddenly. :see_no_evil:

Thanks for making this, I’ve added it to the top post. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think she’s one of those mangaka that had quite a few works published, but didn’t really have a standout series.

Glancing through her manga updates page, the only ones that stand out to me is love stage and back stage. (Though I see a few serious on here that look pretty cute.) Looks like she did a ton of doujinshi as well.

How big were doujinshi for you guys growing up? I think I knew of them, but only read any from very, very specific circles and fandoms.

Scans didn’t start until 2011, so a little late for the list (worth a mention in the description, though). I bought a few of her books - they weren’t particularly memorable, but I did enjoy her work.

I can’t really remember reading that many at the time, except the Gravitation mangaka’s own djs of the series… Which scarred me.

Was anyone into LNs? I wasn’t interested in them at the time, although there were quite a few available.

I don’t think so. It’s been a long while, but my impression was that I was probably only aware of them if I had heard that the manga of something I liked was an adaption of the LN, and then was sad the LN wasn’t in English. Haruhi Suzumiya and Spice and Wolf may have been the extent of my knowledge.

Ah, and I stumbled upon some more potential additions to the non-fiction list:

@shablul just found that new private list you set up. Very bold. :eyes: I’m going to have to dig deep through my manga updates read list to examples for this one. :see_no_evil:

Wait hold on what kind of list are we talking about here :eyes:

I mean… I’m already set for the year with all the stuff I have to check for my own unrelated lists… but I can still have a look.

Anyone aware of an anime equivalent to MU that shows fansub release dates? Most of the Aarinfantasy dates for early stuff is 2005, but I suspect that’s just when their forums were created. I also came across an article that suggests there may have been a Zetsuai fansub in the late 90s! :astonished:

Wait how can you see private lists though :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I shall leave it @shablul if they want to divulge the contents yet, or wait until it’s had a bit more TLC.

I am not, unfortunately. :frowning:

I can see it when I select the “Add to custom list” option on a book’s page, since I’m a contributor. I went ahead and added a few manga, though since I haven’t read them personally they’ll likely need to be verified they’re what the list is looking for.

This might be a bug if it wasn’t intentional, @brandon.
