Ah, that’s actually another poll question I need to add; thank you for reminding me! Please go vote on the new poll! And not to worry, if we vote two volumes of the winner, there won’t be any overlap with the following book.
I read 僕らの食卓 last month, so my preference is obviously ギンモクセイ, but I’ll happily creep in the thread for 僕らの食卓.
Fun fact about one of our finalists (which we’re voting on here), it looks like it just got a Polish edition! I’m not sure how active the Polish manga translation industry is, but I thought it was neat to suddenly see it pop up in the wild.
Heads up that I’m going to close the poll on Sunday; get your votes in before then!
All right, it’s been decided! We’ll be reading both volumes of ギンモクセイの仕立て屋 | L24, starting August 19, and will follow up with both volumes of 僕らの食卓 | L20. Thank you for voting, everyone!
Btw there’s a sale on the first volume on CMOA for anyone reading digitally
Wanted to let everyone know since 僕らの食卓 is officially decided on lol
The home thread for our next book has been put up! Find it here:
I don’t know if anyone’s familiar with 英田サキ or her work; she’s the author behind DEADLOCK | L30 and S. She apparently just recently passed away. Deadlock’s been on my radar for a while; I’m thinking I should scoot it up now…
Quite the prolific BL writer. I have access to S and Deadlock in translation… at least she is now on my “see if I can find something in Japan” list.
Edit:
Haven’t used my ebook reader in a long time. And I should be reading Japanese.
Quick check-in with you guys: does anyone want to take any breaks after our current book before we start 僕らの食卓?
- No, I’m fine to start immediately after the current book ends
- No, I’d like a one week break
- No, I’d like a two week break
All the options say no, but me thinks two of them protest too much
Oh no! I can’t believe that. A huge loss for the BL小説 world…
Whoops, I thought I’d worded those better this morning.
Have you read any of her works?
Only two actually - 遠い海岸 (this was fun) and 今宵、天使と杯を (I literally only read this because ヨネダコウ did the illustrations, it was just ok haha). I’ve been meaning to read more of her books but they’re often heavy on the hard boiled mystery stuff and I like a bit more of a character driven element, so I don’t reach for them when I want a BL read. Maybe it’s time to try out Deadlock or something though.
We gotta do a memorial book club or something, haha.
Haha yes a book club with a noble purpose
So, I finished S vol 1 in English in a day and what a nostalgia trip. the basically self-lubricating, no-prep needed back passages are always a blast from the past. But I do like the fact that the uke is a grown men and not some damsel in distress and an active participant in the fun times.
I have started Deadlock vol 1 in translation as well and so far it’s also interesting with a strong uke. I will definitely try and pick up some of her stuff in October/November.
@shablul volume 8 out next month:

The home thread for our next read is up!
