This started because when I saw the joke option of “start a new book club” in the 2023 Advent participation poll, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking, “What if…” So I’ll (at least try to) not start anything new before December, and then start a new book or manga series every day during Advent. Probably mostly manga, since I do have a fair few un- or barely started series and I can usually read a full volume in a day. Each series will get its own thread, and anyone’s welcome to join in at any time, at any volume. I’m not planning too carefully when to read anything since ADHD and that don’t exactly mix, but there’s a high probability I can be swayed toward starting a specific one at a certain time—including pre-planning for Advent—if anyone’s interested.
I won’t be including any single-volume manga—though I don’t think I have very many unread at this point anyway—or series I’ve gotten a significant portion into or any book/series that already has a club on here. (Though maybe I should leave out nominations too…? Don’t wanna step on anyone’s toes. I’m also sort of leaning toward not including single-volume novels as well tbh, though for now I’ve still listed them.)

Hum. Although. I’m not yet a third of the way through ダイヤのＡ(Ace) act 1 and it’s got an act 2 which I do plan on getting at some point (though not for a while) plus the spin-offs ダイヤのＢ(Brass) acts 1 and 2 (of which I have the first) and ダイヤのＣ(Cat) (which I’m not sure I want). So I guess I can include that too and make a thread for it.
Advent will be mostly manga, since I can usually finish those in a day and I don’t really like having multiple volumes started at once outside of scheduled book clubs (though there’s no limit to started series lmao). This month I’ve also been trying to read a full volume every day since I have so many, and that will continue into next month, so Fri-Sun will always be manga since those are the days I’m most likely to be tired from work. I can’t depend on having enough energy on those days to read a full volume plus part of whatever novel I decide to start, but I’m generally fine during the week, so those days will be open season.
One novel I’m like 99% certain I’ll start during Advent is 金色の羽でとべ because it’s volleyball so I can’t not, despite already being in the middle of 2.43. (Assuming I keep single-volume novels, of course, though I guess unless anyone objects, I will.) Likely one of the food ones too, though I haven’t decided which yet.
黒バス I’m planning on starting Jan 1 just to see if I can finish it in a month, and the first 文スト LN I’m saving for next year too since I’m 99% sure that it’s the one that’s been in my 積読 pile the longest, so I’m saving that for the Bingo.
Would it be possible for you to link any home threads you create for individual series here, EBW? That way I can just link to this thread for the book club master list.

(Also would you mind using the nickname EBW for me instead? “Enby” is short for “nonbinary,” so it’s kind of like calling a user with the handle “gay[character]” just “gay.”)
If anyone has anything specific they want me to start on a certain day, I’ll add it to the calendar here. Any day that doesn’t have anything, I’ll be picking something randomly from my list and then adding it to the calendar when I make the thread the day of.
So the 飛べ in the title being written in kana did point in that direction, but my CDJapan order arrived today and I confirmed that 金色の羽でとべ is indeed a children’s book, and I’ve submitted a request for it to be recategorized. Oh well, I don’t mind. I read あの空はキミの中 ～Play ball, never cry!～ earlier this year and enjoyed it. Though, they are by different authors so there isn’t exactly any guarantee the way it’s written is friendly to readers outside the target age range, but I suppose I’ll find out.
Maybe it would be fine if I included books that had been WK clubs? It’s not like there’s a total overlap between both forums. Then I could include NatsuYuu, too. I’m only 2 volumes in so far, plus I’ve got the novels. But it still kinda feels like stepping on toes…
I wouldn’t worry about it! Just because a different group read the book doesn’t mean that no one’s ever allowed to form another club with the book. 本好き for example was a WK club as well.
Day 2 of Advent is おうちでごはん! I’ll be starting with vol 2 since I read the first last year.
I forgot to say over here, but I decided at the end of last month that I won’t be aiming to read a full volume of manga every day this month after all, or I’m probably gonna burn out. If I do finish one in a day, then that’s great, but if not, then I’ll just work on it over the span of a few days, more like with organized book clubs. I’ll probably still be keeping Fri-Sun manga-only though since they generally take less energy than novels and I’m least likely to have energy on those days.
Day 3 of Advent is キラメキ☆銀河町商店街! I read the first volume in English ages ago and loved it (never found the rest, though I’m pretty sure Tokyopop did translate more than just the one before shutting down), so I’m happy to have found the full series in Japanese.
I finally got around to requesting several of my books that weren’t on Natively yet (one I don’t feel like dealing with rn and the official guides and whatnot I’m still not sure about, probably wait until I’ve actually read them), so all the series in my table actually have links now! I probably shoulda done it for ダイヤのＢ act 2 even before I ordered it, but eh, it’s on there now (and somehow I actually managed to remember to update the Daiya home post with it. On the 1st, I forgot to link to the series page in the VS. again post until hours later because I got too wrapped up in how/whether I should do the furigana… I am a mess.)
I also own 天気の子 and want to read it at some point - but not before New Year’s as I have too much on my plate until then. Would you be interested in reading it together with me in January or February?
Day 4 of Advent is 少年ノート. This is another manga I’m going into completely blind! (Coincidentally, both this one and the first are Morning KC manga lol) An eBay seller I’d bought from before had the full set pretty cheaply (plus a sale, plus a coupon), and I sang in my school choir from fourth grade to when I dropped out halfway through college, so obviously I was going to buy the school choir manga.
