I found the ereader works well for this; I do an in book search for each date and go where it points.

That’s very true; only way jumping around is bearable for me digitally, at least.

I wonder how long the count has been planning his move to London? Months? Years? Decades?

And him crawling out of the window always brings the image of a spider to mind.

I think I am switching to English. I listened to the parts that I had already read, thinking I had a pretty good understanding, but I missed a lot of details that make the story more interesting, imo. The issue with me free flowing everything. :see_no_evil:

After a few days break, we’re back in it.

Jonathan goes exploring, and seems intent on ignoring the Count’s explicit warning against sleeping anywhere but his assigned bedroom. We shall find out tomorrow what happens. :eyes:

I have to wonder what happened in these missing days. ā€œDear Diary, today I taught Drac how to play baccarat and he’s eyes turned red and dripped blood every time he lost but he didn’t crawl down the side of the castle like a lizard with his cape ignoring the law of gravity, … so I guess not much happened today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have something to write about … fingers crossed!ā€

Hahaha. I figured characters were just going with the flow, a kind of ā€œwait and seeā€ type thing. Tension is high, but nothing particular noteworthy actually happens, maybe?

I am reading the abridged version with only ~300 pages and trying to gauge where everyone else is at in the story compared to me. No comments so far other than my hands hurt with how many lookups I had to do on the phone so I am going to prop up the book on a stand and do lookups on the proper keyboard. It is very cool description language that I haven’t seen much of to date, all feels relatively important words to learn as well.

I fell behind just a bit this weekend, so it was nice to see two short entries, though I’m sure Jonathan doesn’t agree with me, haha.

Assuming Lucy or someone doesn’t pop in in the meantime, it looks like the next entry from Jonathan will be on the 28th, so a bit away!

First day in a bit; we should be meeting back up with Jonathan again soon, I think.

We get a new letter from Lucy; she’s somehow managed to get three separate marriage proposals in one day, haha. I must say, quite a bit of Quincey’s ā€œslangā€ went over my head in Spanish; he’s speaking in basically all vocabulary I haven’t learned yet. @.@ Granted, he didn’t make much sense to me in English anyway…

I have no idea what the ā€œseven youths of the lampsā€ means… It’s very annoying knowing what something means without knowing what it means. I end up sitting and staring at it forever trying to make sense of it.

I did enjoy seeing the spanish version of ā€œwhen it rains, it poursā€ … llueve sobre mojado … which I wouldn’t have gotten without Lucy’s help setting it up as a refran/saying otherwise I would have looked at it with the same blank stare as I did the ā€œseven youths of the lamps.ā€

Two entries today; mentioning it here just in case, but Dr. Seward’s entry might be labeled as April 24 instead in your copy. It was in mine, with a translator’s note that the date was clearly an error on Stoker’s part.

We get to meet Renfield for the first time today! I always liked Renfield; he’s an interesting guy.

And we’re back with Jonathan after a while! Not much has happened for him; he’s just kind of waiting for some opportunity to present itself. I wonder if the count ever took up reading shorthand after this little incident, so it wouldn’t surprise him again? Then again, he may not have know that it was in shorthand specifically…

The awesome power of shorthand! As a kid, I had a brief moment of wanting to learn it after reading Dracula.

I do feel sorry for Jonathan, here; it’s quite the sorrowful line that ends this entry.

Small update today on the animal lover Renfield. He’s been collecting flies… :fly:

All I could think of was the old nursery song ā€œI knew an old man who swallowed a fly, I don’t know why he swallowed a fly, ā€¦ā€ and, of course, the inevitable verse that follows …

I ran into this happy little word again today in La ridĆcula idea de no volver a verte | L31. Good to know what I’m learning here is applicable elsewhere.

Been a while since our last update. Jonathan is still hanging on; not much has changed for the poor guy.

In which Renfield becomes increasingly Renfield … and I keep singing my nursery song about the old man who swallowed … something … increasingly large …

Alrighty, had to catch up after missing June 24 & 25, since I’ve been devoting the majority of my time to FFXIV before the Dawntrail maintenance. Now that my 48 hours of purgatory are here, it was time to check out Jonathan’s. :sunglasses:
