Is No. 6 on the Audible’s 聞き放題 now? (Or whatever their plan is called.) Or is it not since it’s so new?
Yeah, it’s available on my “プレミアムプラン” (月額¥1,500で自動更新).
I don’t know if it’s also available for choice on their other plan - “スタンダードプラン” (毎月1冊のオーディオブック 月額¥880で自動更新)
Oh I didn’t know there was a プレミアムプラン.. that also includes a book to own at the end of the month? The 聴き放題 itself is usually a good deal for me, I often finish at least 1.25 books a month, which is way cheaper than buying the books, but on my slow months it’s less a good deal. To then get an audiobook to keep for another ¥500 would be a good deal…![]()
premium = kikihoudai - you don’t get to keep any books but you can listen to almost everything in their catalogue
Oh. Huh. They must have upped their prices at some point (and added a lower plan underneath the old only plan). I am apparently on their premium plan now that it exists. ![]()
was it not always 1,500 for the 聴き放題? but yeah, the standard plan was introduced a year ago or something…
I thought it was ¥900 or ¥1000?
I mean, with the buying power of the yen right now it might be cheaper now than when I first started my subscription
but yeah I’m pretty sure it wasn’t ¥1500 when I joined…
It has always been 1500 for me (except for the first 3 months that were half price or something like that.
If this is still Audible - at some point Audible.jp shifted the Japanese one to just subscription all you can hear. So it’s possible you joined before that shift.
Audible in the US and Germany (and as far as I know UK and others), you still do a monthly sub that includes most things (but not everything) and you get to keep one audiobook per month.
I am old enough to remember that audible.jp started out as kikihoudai, then switched to credits and then switched back to kikihoudai.
(and now offers both)
Amazing, who knew that this book club thread would turn into kikihoudai / audible.jp lore ![]()
Bought the book, downloaded the audiobook, created chapter vocab lists, started pre-studying the lists – I feel like I’m now fully equipped for the bookclub to start ![]()
I think I will first listen to the full audiobook chapter, then read it, hoping I manage to finish my vocab lists in parallel (each list has about 250 words per chapter - going in with a strong pace of 30 words/day). I will probably end up blacklisting a lot of niche words later on.
I don’t think it’s been posted before, but here’s the jpdb.io deck for anyone who needs it:
Btw just a fun fact but looks like the novel (along with volumes 2 and 3 iirc) got new covers. I didn’t realize when I first ordered it since all the listings I saw had the old covers. I really like the artwork (though not a fan of the non-removable text about sales numbers on the front). Looking forward to starting the novel next week with everyone ![]()
Welcome, fallenfrost!
And yep, aren’t these just the prettiest? These aren’t technically new covers - they’re gigantic obis that are large enough to function as covers; if you take it off the top, you’ll see the regular bunko cover art underneath.
They’ve been re-releasing the a handful volumes with these new obis with each release of No. 6 再会; volumes 1-2 for 再会 #1 and volumes 3-5 for 再会 #2. Here’s link to a store page showing them!
(Huh. I actually see a new obi art vol 6 there…did I miss it the first time with 再会 #2’s release? Or are they releasing them separately now? Not sure.)
Omg ty for telling me I feel so dumb
I even took the dustjacket off when I first got the book to make sure the actual cover underneath was alright and didn’t even notice. Now I understand why the sales numbers are there!
I really like the art on vol #2 so I’m hoping I like the first volume enough to justify buying the second lol.
Japan does that with movie covers as well - which I love… instead of reprinting a book with a new cover, they just put a second cover on top of the original and you can simply strip the book and have the original cover, if you don’t like the movie cover.
No reason to feel dumb! There’s honestly not a lot of difference between a “real” cover and a フル帯 anyway, it’s just semantics.
Ugh, I wish English books did this.
No, I don’t want to see actors standing around generically on this book, I want the OG! (Also points off for the printed on “sticker” graphics advertising a new movie/TV show adaption…)
Well, I can see now why people buy books they already own for the pretty covers.
/Sighs/
Week 1 is strarting now!
Here’s our thread:
