Can anyone who read ahead of week 6/end of chapter 3 let me know if there is any more rape scenes in the upcoming chapter/weeks? I am on page 179 now and really not enjoying the read 
I am thinking of skipping some scenes and still give the book a try further but I don’t know exactly how long each.. scene is.

I read further and so far, there aren’t. I also don’t think there will be any after the end of chapter 3, going by the direction it is taking now. But I’m still in chapter 4.

I finished week 8, and 1) there’s nothing like that anymore 2) it should not happen again (and it would be a dealbreaker to me if it ever happened again).

Week 7
So, things are already getting fuzzy in my head, but I remember I was really glad that the woman who raised Fil was mad about his behavior. I also appreciated that she told Nia that he doesn’t have to just accept that kind of behavior either and that he should at the very least take some time away.
Beyond that, it was nice to see the rest of the family as well. I really enjoyed to see that Diana is dodging marriage proposals… which kinda goes with my idea that she is maybe lesbian coded?? Am I being greedy?

Ugh my reading speed went down so much I used Kindle’s reading assistant (text to speech) generously and it still took me three evenings.
Week 5
A tiny rant about the war
Wow, we’re starting the chapter with a shoujo perception of a war.
White war uniform (enemy’s golden helmet makes more sense to me, with Japan’s… everything) + being somehow surprised that the prince of a country is not concerned with the lives of the invading army + implying that Nia, a trained warrior that’s in practice leading this army, is.
What next, is Nia about to let assassins live?
It makes even less sense now that I know Nia fought in this war before and lost his army friends to that army. Bro, be happy your leader is doing everything to protect you instead of being oh-so-considerate and letting your people lose lives? What even…
And don’t get me started how 0 casualties mean no-one from the enemy troops got close to the front.
Note to self: Nia is 20 and Fil is 17. Age of consent is 16 as far as I remember so going forward I’ll assume this is now legal. And we got art later in this week’s content! What an improvement to the previous one…
Nooo we skipped over Nia’s explanation of the confession nooo. Give me details pleaseeeee it really impacts my perception of Fil pleaseee. As for the actual plot.

Fil-sama is flirting but well yeah. I can see Nia’s point even beside the whole Saint thing (which is really not helping) - the guy is making fun of Nia all day long for 4 years now. How is he supposed to differentiate between jokes and flirting from this fox boy?
Nia’s family would be a bunch of traitors if I didn’t forget that Diana heard the confession, which means that they might just all be assuming that Nia is in love but is not taking any steps towards his happiness because of the status difference.
But let’s not get married to your sister’s rival villainess, yeah?
Diana might just knock her out herself.

re week 5
Well, yes, that’s the point. They did not manage to get in contact (so there is no front, so to speak), so melee combat did not happen. Nia strongly advocated to develop artillery because he had that war in mind.
The age of consent is 18 OR up to 5 years younger than the older person, whichever is lowest (minimum is 13). That latest one assumes an established relationship, though, and additional constraints means that it would be difficult below 16 in practice. In any case, it is indeed legal.

The war thing
Artillery that good would mean a lot of it and would also mean some of it is available in other countries too (gunpowder at least), this wouldn’t work from scratch in 4 years without isekai knowledge (where you can go “they don’t know what gunpowder is and how to work metals but I do”).
No matter how I think about, you’d still get soldiers that with all the bodies below that do get through. But maybe in offensive battle they are more willing to give up…
Also looking forward to the arms race this will kickstart. Even if Fil made it part of treaty, at least soldiers will talk…

You gave me hope that they raised it from 16 to 18 (would be two increases in a relatively short time period), but Google in English says it’s still 16
Week 6 aka regrets
Woke up with a migraine on my birthday and decided I can stay in bed and read instead of moving. Now I’m both in pain and sad.
And it started so good
We got rational approach to marriage, Nia not really realizing what he’s feeling but feeling SOMETHING. Diana and Fil tearing Nia and Crystal apart was very funny and I was way more invested in Diana/Crystal dance there, I wish we got to see more.
(Their dynamics surely has changed this life with Diana being a strong boss girl)
Fil got jealous and it’s been a trainwreck of a scene since.
First he assumed that making Nia look hot got him attention of the girls (true) and that it got to Nia’s head (??? It’s like you don’t know him???)
Then he assumed Nia fell in love with Crystal (??? It’s like you didn’t see them interact before???)
Then he realized it’s a plot by the queen and geared up to destroy (?) her (yum!).
And then he had hope. For a total of 30 seconds between asking “why are you asking me to not merry your sister?” and realizing the answer is not “I love you so much and it’d break me to see you get together with my sister of all people”.
It was all fun for Fil, the four years of probably seduction (?), getting close and all. But it really truly hurt him to hear from the guy he likes and thought he is liked back an equivalent of “please don’t do it to my sister, you’re going to meet a girl of your dreams in a couple of years”.
Like. I felt for him. I did.
And I am in general always prepared to noncon/dubcon in yaoi because well yeah it sort of seemed to me as a teenager that the authors need uke to have an excuse to not be “guilty” of starting a sexual relationship (or enjoying things cos it’s not uke’s fault seme did that). I think when omegaverse became a thing I finally realized it was repressed female sexuality all along.
But ugh.
“Get naked” thing caught me off guard (I didn’t realize in which room they are and a part of me was worried about someone coming in while Nia is so vulnerable)
I see how Nia’s alternative ideas would make Fil angrier but bro, you’re not on the same page and “I’ll show you with my body” is not working on Nia. Fil knows it because acts of service did nothing. And when he chooses to speak he threatens Nia’s sister just like the queen did right before this.
My overall top hated here:
- Threatening Diana
- Constant comparisons to a child. Making sounds like a child, acting like a child, begging like a child - I don’t think the author intended to hit a trauma response box, it was probably just a way to describe how strongly he felt. But ouch.
- No improvement in the emotional background. I don’t like when rape ends with “I love my assaulter so much, what is wrong with me, to feel like that”, but I am used to it in yaoi. I didn’t expect the author to leave me in this limbo of despair and to spend 30% of the chapter thinking that Nia should quit and make sure both he and Diana are never in the same room with this guy again
- “I didn’t touch him, why is he hard” - you have a dick, you should know how it works, Nia

Age of consent
Ah, I see the disconnect. I meant that it’s illegal under 18. So, in my head, I equaled age of consent to that, but it’s true that consent is not directly related to the legality of something.
From English Wikipedia:
In 2023, the two articles were amended to raise the age of consent from 13 to 16 years old. An exception was included for sexual acts involving persons aged 13 to 15, by which the older partner is only subject to penalty if five or more years older. The amendments were part of a larger reform of Japan’s sex crime legislation.
On the other hand, even before the revision of the Penal Code, several laws made it illegal to engage in sexual acts with minors under the age of 18.
So, I guess 16 is the age where it would not be statutory r*pe, but it’s still illegal.

Okay, the schedule is finally where I am, meaning I can finally read some more next week 
week 8
So, I loved the interaction between the two of them. I ALSO LOVED DIANA BEING ON THE FREAKING ROOF READY TO SHOOT DOWN THE PRINCE.
I am glad that there was some discussion about consent and that they kinda put that behind them. However, it still felt too little. To be completely honest, I don’t think there’s anything Fil could have done or said that would make it okay for me, but yeah, at least there was an effort.
Nia finally confronting his own feelings as well as his belief that Fil will definitely fall in love with the saint was nice, and of course so was the proposal (?) scene. Still would have been better without week 6, but anyway
About the saint, I am almost certain she is just a plot from the queen anyway, so she may not even end up existing, depending how the situation evolves.
On that front, when I first read this section, I took the last part at face value (like, they would go hunting literal foxes) but then, one week or two ago I had a shower realization that “oh, he is probably talking about the queen”. It would be hilarious if I am wrong

Just a small heads up that I am indeed still reading along, just a bit behind. Catching up on week 7 now.
Edit: ah-ha, the proven method of telling everyone you’re going to be late and then making it on time works again flawlessly. In this case week 7 complete. 
Week 7:
so I was curious how the morning after was going to play out after フィル’s freaking out the night before, buuuut we sidestepped the whole thing after he fled the country like a coward. I thought the maid’s extreme disapproval with his actions was welcome, and I can only hope she gave him hell in her own way when she had the chance.
This ended up being a really nice heart-to-heart with Diana though; man, every time we see that girl I like her a little bit more. So she’s now broken down in plain language all of フィル’s favoritism to ニア and helped ニア realize that he can kind to himself too in this new life, so I’m hoping this gives him the ability to put down some ultimatums to フィル once he returns. The author’s been pretty good about their writing so far imo, so it would feel pretty out of character at this point (though sadly par for the industry) if there are no repercussions for that night.
Honestly, I’m getting the same vibes and I basically read no yuri at all. Though I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to her staying a strong single woman either; we don’t see nearly enough of that in novels like these.

Week 8
And here we are! Overall I thought the apology was done pretty well; it would be icing on the cake if ニア had intimacy issues the two would need to work out after this, but I’m not expecting too much. I must say, ending this week with Diana armed with bow and arrow and this close 
to shooting フィル had me laughing. Looking forward to seeing where things go next! It was nice to see フィル acting a bit more human, so I hope we get to see him open up a bit more.
I have to say, I’m enjoying ニア’s determination to be pre-miserable in assuming that フィル is definitely going to fall for the mystery saint; it’s a nice unresolved issue that hopefully gets a lot of screentime when she appears.
Oh, now there’s an interesting thought. I’ve been assuming that the “saint” is some sort of imposter anyway, but it would be interesting to hear that it was the Queen’s idea.

Week 7
I see we’re ignoring that, okay.
I love the maid and I love Diana so much oh my God I’d read a whole thing about her. She’s totally a main character of something.
Nia: is trying to avoid any reasons for his family to be executed
Nia’s family: we’ll take that risk and escape without any problem if Nia’s love life doesn’t work out, but we hope he’s happy with his love interest
Nia’s love interest: I’ve got an understanding with the in-laws and I’m doing great and he likes me and that I’m pretty and I’m like 87% in our future marriage plan-
Nia: was that in the plot??? What–
Diana’s description of Fil - “He knows he’s pretty and you like it so he’s playing it up for you, smiles and gets all close, what a twat” - slammed me back into awareness that both of them (Fil and Diana) are teenagers.
Foxy boy Fil thinking he’s playing with his food (he KNOWS he’s pretty and Nia likes him and he likes THAT) and he’s so sure he’s actively working with the future in-laws I can’t I’m so sad week 6 why show me Fil againnnn
