I’m not sure I’m quite following. He says that 1 year in the fairy realm equals 100 human realm years, but then goes on to say that even if he(?) spends decades in the fairy realm and grows old, only a few days will have passed in the human realm? Is that right, and there’s just absolutely no continuity between the two realms? Or have I misunderstood?
Ah, I see. I had a feeling that もあり was putting in some work I wasn’t accounting for, so that makes sense. …So the sentence is basically a blank check for the author to maybe introduce the 青騎士卿 however they want to down the line.
Wow, I’m really liking リディア so far! Essentially kidnapped, but she still stays pretty calm and collected, I like. I wonder if リディア’s father is going to notice at all that she’s disappeared? I’m anticipating either a) she shows up at his place 6 months later, him totally unruffled by the late arrival, or b) he’ll hire someone to find her and we’ll get a fun new character to meet.
Interesting backstory for アーミン and レイヴン, and of リディア rumored to be a changeling. I hope she gets a chance to talk to レイヴン soon; I want to hear more of his backstory!
I actually haven’t been getting that feeling yet, and I’ve been watching out for it since that’s what I would expect of someone like エドガー. Doesn’t mean it’s not there of course, but I’m a little surprised my alarms haven’t gone off yet. I’m think I’m too impressed by リディア so far, haha.
Note to self: the American 殺人鬼 has a tattoo of a cross on his tongue. (How did the police even find that out, anyway?)
Edit: Okay, finished the week! I wonder what kind of 精霊 レイヴン sees? Man, ハスクリー caught up quick; wasn’t expecting him quite so soon. エドガー remains suspicious; he’s going to need to work harder. I hope リディア doesn’t give him any slack; he needs to work to earn some trust here.
I was thinking that, as エドガー seems to know him as ゴッサム, he was surprised that he was the person going by the name ハスクリー. I don’t know if that 100% checks out, though; I assumed Edgar would’ve gotten a good look at him after he was “kidnapped” and while “rescuing” リディア, though I guess it’s possible he didn’t.
There’s also a John, right? So I’m assuming both Edgar and Huskley know each other by different/fake names. Definitely think there’s still something a bit fishy going on here, but I’m really enjoying how we don’t know the whole truth to the situation, similarly to Lydia. Curious to know what Edgar is hiding!
Week 5 is here! We’ll be reading a full chapter, meaning this is going to be a longer-than-usual week. Next week will also be long, so make sure to pace yourselves!
I’m reading now, but will take a bit to catch up with you all.
what I think I’m actually going to do is finish 妖魔と下僕の契約条件 this week ahead of that club and then make this my main read until I catch up with this club.
@eefara conned me into buying this! Going to read at my own pace.
Chapter 1:
This book is really fun so far, I hope every chapter is as action-packed as this one. Lydia is a fun protagonist, I like that she’s not afraid to be an outcast and defend her truth of knowing the fairies are real! We also got Edgar’s motivations and learned the mythical items that he’s after. Looking forward to reading more!
On the Green Knight thing, Gawain was my thought as well. FWIW, he’s sometimes portrayed as being the son of a faerie. He’s known as the Ladies’ Knight, so that sort of fits with Edgar’s whole charisma thing, although he seems kind of manipulative so far.
Weeks 1-2 Thoughts: I’m enjoying all of the action so far! More dramatic than I thought it would be, but I’m not mad. Edgar seems sketchy and manipulative, but enigmatic, so I’m curious to see what else he’ll do and what kind of character he’ll turn out to be. Judging by covers from the later volumes, he and Lydia clearly continue to spend a lot of time together (and probably fall in love), but I’m not sure what exactly they’ll end up doing together. That aside, I think that Lydia is naive but has a bit of a backbone, so I’m also interested in seeing how she acts and makes decisions as the story goes on.
Don’t have a lot more to add besides what others were saying. I also was wondering about the Blue (green?) Knight. Interestingly, 青騎士 is a suggested word in my IME, but it seems to refer to an artist group and not, say, Gawain. There were also some Gundam looking models that came up in the search I’m guessing it’s just an in world thing.
I’m hoping this next section is as action packed because I’m going to keep reading and try to catch up with the schedule this week. Wish me luck
We get Edgar’s background and I was sceptical all the way together with Lydia until we got his flashback. Now, using the manipulation skills cultivated by an evil man and hating that that’s the only way you can survive now? I love that.
Weeks 3-4 Thoughts: This is a wild ride. So many possibilities for Edgar’s background and identity, along with Armin and Raven. I’m confused but intrigued. I also agree with @eefara that Lydia’s reactions so far are impressive. I hope that she can find some way to gain leverage, though, since she’s sort of just been going along with things. Obviously, it’s clearly a dangerous, sketchy situation so I think she’s doing well for herself all things considered, but I do want to see some fairy hijinks if possible!
Week 5 Thoughts: That was a lot. We finally got to see Edgar’s true personality/emotions/backstory, which is interesting, to say the least. Darker than I expected for sure. So glad that we got his POV for a sec so that I actually had faith in its veracity though. Plus now Huxley’s gotten his claws into Lydia’s father, which is concerning. It’ll be fun to see where things go from here.
That was a lot.
I really liked how we got different POVs this chapter. It gives characters extra depth and I was very excited to see Niko negotiate with small fairies. Intel-gathering Nico banzai.
Edgar trying to burn him was way less fun.
I think by now we all understand where he’s coming from and both he and Lydia in their separate thoughts stress that they are not “nakama” here.
But also I’m hard pressed to understand how the bad guys would find them if they were to live quietly in the countryside.
Armin is just making me sad, while Raven made it seem like he’s got an uncontrolled berserk inside him and I wonder how true it is. Are we going with “monster inside me” or will it end up being just results of such goal-oriented grooming from young age? Well, I doubt I’ll ever read all 30+ volumes to find out
