I was hesitant to add it to Natively, because I don’t think natives buy Mooks to read them cover to cover (?) Also it might be challenging to grade since it’s a bit of a mixed bag. What do you guys think? I wanted to ask an admin about it
If we count only the short story, it might be more practical to add it to Natively. I can see people reading all of them, but not the interviews. But I’d love to see a “Literary magazine” category, there are so many other Mooks that are specific to one genre (let’s say Mystery or True crime) and I’m sure lots of people would enjoy having that sorted
Thank you so much @mitrac for the help in organizing everything! I’m so glad to see you are having a good time with GOAT ![]()
I don’t see why they (some) wouldn’t, but either way not really relevant for adding to Natively - it’s still native media. Granted progress tracking can be annoying if you’re not reading cover to cover, but there’s various ways to deal with that
Sure, but that’s true of other mixed bags as well, such as ユリイカ 2014年12月号 特集=百合文化の現在 | L39 (which is a mix of interviews, essays, and maybe some stories iirc) or 百合姫2025年7月号 | L25 (monthly manga magazine with content ranging from L18~L30, and very occasionally prose sections - mostly just the columns in the back tho)
I think that would be a great Product Request fwiw. If you post it there, I’ll add my vote to it
Here you go! I hope to start to see more and more people getting into this format, I was looking into ユリイカ while writing the post and it honestly looks super interesting
I am not entirely sure, how this club works, because I only have the Autumn 2024 edition and I don’t think there is a table for it (yet?) ![]()
Anyways, I read the first story 西 加奈子 ディヴァイン and I definitely did not expect to read a feminist story about the invisible/emotional/mental labour of women in a volume focusing on ‘love’ but it fits surprisingly well. It’s also rare to have something be written in the second person. I liked it and I don’t think it was particularly difficult.
I chuckled a bit at the end when the “divine” narrator basically goes “You made this absurd, powerful thing called love and now you have to live with it and all its difficulties.” and… no lies detected. Like, why did we do this to ourselves? ![]()
The story only covered 3% of the ebook… this will probably be a long-term project. ![]()
I have several books and magazines that I don’t read cover to cover and it’s still great to have them on Natively. Not everyone tracks pages as they read, and actually even if you do there are ways to get into that. I just add the number of pages read and let it accumulate and when I’m finished (for me) I just don’t let it put the pages to the very total if that makes sense.
As 暁のルナ said, there are other examples. I find people have different ways of grading and that’s OK. I just consider relative to other books, could I approach this (generally) at the same level as the comparison book? Or would I have approached it later (harder) or earlier (easier)?
How fun that you got started, too! There isn’t a post for that issue yet.
I think it would be OK if you or someone else makes a homepost for that issue. I or another mod can then turn it into a wiki. Then you could reference your notes from there like I did for the winner 2026 issue.
The vote was going overwhelmingly for “other” so until we potentially get a magazine category, here we are!
btw. audible even has recordings of most (all?) of the stories of the first 2 volumes:
Vol. 1: From GOAT Vol.1 をAmazonオーディオブックで聴く | Audible.co.jp
Vol. 2: From GOAT Vol.2 をAmazonオーディオブックで聴く | Audible.co.jp
and there is a sister magazine? From GOAT meets をAmazonオーディオブックで聴く | Audible.co.jp
So, basically I was suppose to post all 3 magazines’ tables on the same day, but it’s exam season at my uni so I’m terribly behind on that, so sorry ![]()
I have an exam Monday, so I’ll do my best to have them ready by the next day.
@mitrac if you or another mod could then turn them into Wikis (once I post them) that would be wonderful, thank you so much for all the help! I’ve just added GOAT to my reading list ![]()
no worries. this is supposed to be fun not stressful. I appreciate you setting this up - whenever you have time for it. All the best for your exam. You got this! ![]()
Wow thanks, what an amazing find! I would not have expected that. They’re even available on audible Germany which is nice
No rush
All the best on your exam, we’re cheering you on!!
NO WAY that’s so cool ![]()
NO WAY I MISSED THIS, this is so cool! Please tell me I don’t need a Japanese credit card to subscribe to Audible ![]()
Yeah, tbh I saw the price difference and I was like “Mh, maybe I’m going to purchase it after I’m done with the main magazines, since it costs as much as the 3 main volumes”
From my understanding it’s a spin-off (not sure what they mean by this) that for this issue is going to feature Korean authors. I haven’t looked into it, but it seems like a great idea to get a taste of what the literary scene looks like in South Korea right now. I imagine this would be especially interesting for people learning Korean at the same time. Do you plan on getting it?
??? So maybe I can just use my main account without jumping through hoops on Amazon jp? This keeps getting better and better
I don’t, but you need to use a Japanese address as your billing address - basically any random JP address will do. Though your mileage may vary. I have heard ppl have had issues getting their CC accepted. ![]()
I copied one of the story titles from Biblio’s links onto my local audible (Germany in my case) and found them. I recommend trying that with your local one! Not everything is on there, but at least it’s convenient
Looking at the publication date, I’m guessing by summer they might have the vol 3 stories recorded and available
Wow amazing find! Time to renew my audible subscription. ![]()
