Afternoon update:
I finally got outside, had coffee, and bought snacks. I am now unstoppable starting to feel my brain getting tired.
Coffee break got me 59’ and 13 pages.
First of all, why would you make me read a sentence that long 20 hours into a readathon. Second of all, what are you talking about.
I’m pretty sure I could finish this short story today, idk how much is left but it can’t be that much. Locking in

Third update !
It’s now 5:20 PM, meaning I have about 8 hours left.
Did another 1h50min session, with microbreaks here and there that I was too lazy to factor in. KOReader keeps track of the time for me, but I have a very high cap for the maximum time spent per page because of Korean (sometimes, looking up 2-3 words in a KR only dic can skyrocket the time spent on one page if there are 15 definitions and the one I need is towards the end…). Probably should have changed the setting before starting, but too late !
Too flexible to feel good: 110 pages (NB. These are my reader pages. I’ll update with a corresponding physical book pages at the end of the readathon). According to KOreader, based on my current reading speed, I will need another 2h to finish the book. So hopefully I can still manage to finish two books today, but 3 will probably be a stretch considering I am pretty tired.
Now I’ll take a break from reading to get a few things done.

I ended up not reading any more since my last update (so just finished chapter 16) and I added 61 words to my anki deck from just yesterday’s reading. It’s definitely harder than I thought it was when I started!
Edit: Oh and I listend to 90 minutes of L’apprenti assassin (French translation of The Assassin’s Apprentice) because I can punch above my weight when it comes to translated books where I know the story well

I’ll be readathoning tomorrow, monday. had hoped I’d do it yesterday but then there was this little protest I had to attend and today I’m knackered.
I’ll read in french and spanish.
I’m not expecting anything massive. I’m a very slow reader in every language, even native language, and have a tendency to get distracted. Still, anything is something.
It’s been fun to see what everyone is up to!

Story discussion
I read until chapter 11 or so (I think that’s when she went onto the shooting stand for the first time). I am very surprised by the story - I thought it’s an ordinary murder thing, but it seems to be more a pycho analysis fiction 
This of course makes it harder as well.
For the story, I was a bit shocked when everybody was so appalled by her face. One explanation was relatable, namely that her face reminds her team daily of the very real option of failing. But other than that? Even her boyfriend couldn’t stand it, after seeing her once (!). Is this a manifestation of the prejudice that for French people beauty is so very important? I found this somewhat off-putting.

I had a 23-minute session (7 pages, then the sun got to me again and I had to take a nap), and a final 23’-5 pages session that nearly ended me with how many times I had to re-read the same sentences. But I made it! I did finish short story number 4, even though I had to make generous use of the translator.
I knew I had read a book by Park Esther before, it’s 정원의 계시록 | L28, which was also 1. very enjoyable and 2. slightly above my comfortable reading level.
The next and final short story in this book is also by her, so it should be the same kind of struggle 
But for now though, I am wrapping up this readathon! I’ll do a results post later, for now I want to watch a kdrama episode and not look at written words for a while

Hmm…it wasn’t everyone though, she just feels like it is everyone. Her boyfriend is basically told off by the team mates for his reaction, the psychiatrist is unfazed, the taxi driver doesn’t care, the guy at the shooting range doesn’t care, her neighbor doesn’t care. You haven’t yet met one character but we are introduced to another person who likewise doesn’t care. We are definitely grappling with her struggle to find a sense of self when her face, her relationship status, and also her job are all changed/changing, but I think it’s a bit unfair to say everyone is appalled by her face.
I think it’s supposed to move back into a murder plot soon. I haven’t got there quite yet, but I think I scent it coming up with a change of scenery. I do think though that her struggles with her appearnce and how others react (or don’t react) to it will play a big part in the book.

Update 4

4h54min - 293 pages (estimated based on the number of pages in the physical book) → 0.997 p/min. It turns out the last 40 pages or so were just references so I am done a lot earlier than I expected !
This is a good reminder that I can get through an English book in a reasonable amount of time while reading at a very comfortable speed, even if I lose focus now and then, or take extra time to think about or implement what I am reading.
I have a bit under 5h left. I am gonna have to chose between 
and 
… Considering I initially wanted to make this readathon Korean only, it would be kinda disappointing to barely touch Korean, but if I am 100% confident I can finish one of the Dutch books, I am not confident at all I’ll find the focus and brain power to finish the little prince… We’ll see

After about 2h 35 minutes (somewhat approximately measured), I’ve read volume 2 and am a bit over halfway through volume 3. I had already read the first volume before the readathon.

I’m all done and rested! Did the maths, and here are the results:
- 시간 고양이 | L27 Finished the last 23 pages in the book, for a reading time of 53 minutes.
- 3월 2일, 시작의 날 | L30?? Not only did I finish the short story I was reading when I started, but I also finished the next one that’s 104 pages in 5h33 minutes.
In total: 127 novel pages, and 7h26 of reading time. Much better than my previous readathons, both for time and for content length!
Splitting the challenge between two days with a good night of sleep in between probably helped a lot, but I also felt a lot more confident that I did last year (obviously). I can’t really compare the results though, because last year I almost exclusively read mangas, this time only novels.
I will also say that reading along with all of you lovely people was a huge boost in motivation! Community events are very special

Update on 회랑정 살인사건 | L30?? : 5 hours read, 70% of the way through. I kept falling asleep so my timing may be off. I think I need a break or I’ll just fall asleep again lol. Might do some chores and eat. I think I’ll need 2 hours more to finish this book…feels like a lot of time but also not.

First check in of the day… Had a lazy-ish morning where I enjoyed some breakfast and coffee while reading some print manga I’d been putting off due to needing glasses.

I didn’t time anything since I was reading around doing other stuff, but I have tea and I’m about to start my first hour long session.

Update 5
- The little book of talent Total : 1h43 - 92 pages. Definitely feels like cheating, because most of it is blank spaces (52 tips, some of the tips take 1/3 of a page). I honestly already was very familiar with most of the tips, which I learned either from 11 years of classical music training at the conservatory from a young age, from my wonderful parkour coaches later on, or just figured out on my own. I did often spend more time thinking about the tips than reading them : am I currently implementing it for the different skills I am working on and if so how, is there anything I could do differently (and do I want to) … There’s plenty of inspiring quotes, overall a quick and interesting read.
Considering the other things that I still need to do, I probably have about 2 hours max of reading time left, so that’s cutting it very close to finish the little prince… I’ll either go for it, or just work on catching up for the current book club. It’s very likely that I end up falling asleep on whichever book I end up chosing, so final update will be tomorrow morning.

Check in 2: Finished 夏目友人帳 1 . I’m not sure quite why it’s L29, it’s far from the most difficult manga I’ve read. Sadly, the digitalization of volume one is rather blurry which is disappointing. I assume that gets better with more recent volumes.
Anyway, I’m off to do some more housework and then read more.

And I’m done, with 30 minutes left till the official end of my 24h.
Ended up finishing the second story of the sci-fi book club’s 한밤의 시간표 which I had gotten stuck in the middle of. 10% on my ereader, so I will write that as 26 pages based on the number of pages on natively, which took 1h07min. It was a lot easier than the beginning of the story vocab wise, but I still looked up a few words, and made a few anki cards I will likely never get to. This story was not good lol, that’s all I have to say at this hour.
I’ll update my home post tomorrow.

Finished with 30 minutes left!! Phew. I only fell asleep one more time while reading but then I was able to power through 
Bought my bunny a hedgehog friend with all my study coins from this challenge lol
Not totally accurate numbers but I think it’s pretty close! 7 and a half hours to read 300 pages.
