Product Updates & Casual Natively Discussion

It is labeled short story, or maybe somebody changed it after your comment.

My thought remains that we need both “short story” and “short story collection” as distinct categories, and as long as we don’t things are going to be misfiled one way or another and the “short story” category is going to be less useful for finding things to read than it could be.

At 306 pages, I would personally not categorize that as “short story”, because I think that category should be for single short stories, not entire novel length books. But I know some other users take the other view.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, my take is it should not be labeled Short Story

Totally agree with that, and the reason I’m bringing this up is that it messes with my statistics, where I count actual short stories separately from full length books.

“Short story collection” isn’t a format type, but it IS a tag. I’m in agreeance that “novel” refers more to book length than whether it contains a single coherent story, so if a proper category for them can’t be added, I’d be in favour of categorizing short story collections all as novels/LN (depending on audience) and differentiating them with the tag instead of putting them in the same category as single short stories. (I’m not very interested in short stories in general, though, so I’d like to hear more opinions from people the category is actually important to.)

As far as labels go, to me that sounds like it should be a novel/LN tagged “Episodic”, not a “Short story collection”.

Getting server issues when trying to add I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day (TV Series) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

Weekly Update:

  • Major Item: Continued work on delayed book additions / amazon data infrastructure overhaul. I am beginning to get anxious about scope creep here, need a solution because the data requests are really piling up.
  • Talked with an interested community member around helping with server infrastructure. Not a full time partner, just part time volunteer.
  • I will be posting a full indepth request for the partner developer position by next week. Top-header, dismissable, notices for this posting will appear in the forum & main site.

Other notes:

  • Data requests are piling up pending this amazon infrastructure overhaul.
  • With regards to the current discussion on Short Stories, yes this is a common debate, but the current stance is collections count as short stories
  • @暁のルナ roger that

So then should we be reporting short story collections that are currently categorized as novels? Ex: 花物語 上 | L39 (Excluding ones that are part of ongoing novel series, I assume?)

Good luck with the overhaul and scope creep stuff!

I’d say just tag it as a short story collection for now. We can always automatically go back and change novels tagged as short story collection to be short story if we want… just a little underwater wrt data requests currently.

 Ah this makes my workflow a bit more complicated, but I accept the decision with this clear statement.

FYI, my request from 星屑テレパス 5巻 | L24 to be manually added to the series worked now (when I first got the approved email it wasn’t actually visible), but note that on my list it still says I’ve read 4/4 instead of 4/5.

@brandon how did things go this past week?

Update: Sorry, it was a bit of a crazy week this week! Lots of visa / immigration stuff to finish, but thankfully that’s all over now.

I put a lot of work into finally getting this amazon processing finished up and I’m confident we’ll be done next week!

No other major updates this week and didn’t get the ad out yet for the developer, guess that’s pushed to next week.

Addressing comments:

Whoa, that is strange, what the heck :/. Thanks for noting.

Roger that. Hmm, perhaps a larger bug too

Does anyone know if we have a formal product request to allow AND searching with custom checkboxes alongside OR filtering in our library? As an example:

If I select both Audiobook and Historical, the results are items that fulfill either condition, not both.

I neither see nor remember one, but agree it would be a good product request

In my opinion, this kind of thing should default to AND because there’s a workaround for OR (just checking one at a time), while AND has no workaround.

The activity thread of my dashboard recently has many missing images.

But if I click on the book/series, the image is there. It’s just not shown in the activity thread, as it seems (Safari on IPad).

Perhaps I’m just missing something incredibly obvious here, but how do I grade video content? If I click the “grade more items” button on the front page I only get prompted with books, and the only other grading button I’ve managed to find is the one on individual series pages.

I usually wait until the system asks me to grade. For a series this happens after I watched the forth episode, for other stuff like a movie after I declare it as finished.

Updates this week: Unfortunately, I got horribly ill (food poisoning) and I wasn’t able to get much done. Rough couple of weeks for me here, but will be doing a four day week this upcoming week for Natively, so should be seeing a bit more than usual.

Hmm, probably makes sense. Since we’ve switched them to be ‘custom tags’ from the old ‘custom lists’, it make sense that it’d match tag filtering functionality too… which is an ‘AND’.

Is this still continuing? Hmm.

So video prompting is a bit more complicated. We only prompt you to compare similar content types, so no movie to tv season grading comparisons. Also, we only prompt you to compare content you’ve watched in a similar way (subtitles/audio only). This ends up in 4 buckets of comparisons (subbed movies, subbed tv, audio only movies, audio only tv).

Adding in the limit with only being able to compare content within 6 levels of each other, there are quite a few restrictions. That’s probably why you aren’t seeing a ton of prompted comparisons.
