アステリズムに花束を 百合SFアンソロジー Home Thread

I’ve read to about halfway through this week. It’s interesting so far, but I’d say not much going on yet. Not sure what to expect of it next.I didn’t understand 100% of it, but one of the girls is a winged being/creature and the other is also a different species, with scales. It has an interesting focus on linguistics as well.

Alright, that sounds fun enough. I’ll try to remember getting back to this club once I am done with the stuff I am reading now.

Anyone reading story 7? The thread has been a bit quietly recently so just curious… I’m personally trying to get through the current week, but the story hasn’t really caught my interest so far so I’m struggling a bit. I’ll see if I’m able to finish it, but there’s still more of it next week…

I went ahead and finished it last week, after experiencing similar struggle getting into it before. I don’t think it’s particularly bad or good… just the tone is a bit bland, maybe?

Thoughts on story 8 so far? :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m enjoying it more than the previous one, I think I just appreciate stories without the fantasy aspect/other races more. Perhaps its also the academic environment that gives me a certain sense of familiarity. The beginning was tough for me because it felt like a wall of text, but I enjoyed the narrator so I kept going on, and then we got to the ‘reveal’ in the end of part 1 which helped me get hooked into the story. I’m interested in seeing how the story will develop.

I just started chapter 8, finished part 1 only so far. I liked it! The tone is very approachable imo. I also liked how there are sci-fi elements in all aspects of life so far, without them feeling forced.

I’ve read parts 1-5, or the first three weeks.

I’m very positively surprised still! The main character is a bit dull, Ema is a bit much, Monika is a mystery - but I like how everything is set up, it’s a notch or some above the other stories imo.

If anyone has stopped reading, this might be the story to come back for! No yuri yet though.

Glad to know you are also enjoying it so far - I also finished part 5 yesterday and I’m still really into the story. I do hope we get some more yuri though - perhaps Judy and Ema? Or we will find out one of them was involved or in love with Monica in the past? I do hope we get a bit more of development for Judy though - I feel like we started well, but her personality got completely set aside once Ema appeared…

I am planning to catch up with all the book clubs ™ once I am done with my current series (on the last book, so it shouldn’t take too long)

I finished the second to last story!

I liked it, but…

No yuri as far as I can see. :upside_down_face: I really wonder what’s up with the lack of that. Or maybe my understanding of ‘what Yuri is’ is off?

I started the final short story and finished the 1st section so far, almost done with section 2… It starts off the most obviously sci-fi and the most potentially Yuri of them all! I have high hopes… Even if I have to admit I did not try to understand the make up of… Fat Beach Ball… And it’s surrounding atmosphere.

I’ll try to finish section 2 today to be caught up again.

I feel bad for nominating this one, but also it has it right in the title. Who greenlit this being published?!

I have to say I didn’t understand much of the sci-fi elements in general, but that’s probably because the difficulty level of this story is just a bit too much above my level of Japanese. to be honest, in section 1 I wasn’t too invested, I found it difficult to follow and I am usually not a big fan of stories that just throw you in and only explain a few elements here and there. I am glad there was a bit more of world building in section 2, even if I was not expecting Diode to appear at the end of the chapter - I do wish section 2 came before section 1, tbh. But there is indeed yuri potential here, fortunately.

Don’t feel bad about it, you can never know! Spoilers just in case, but I have to say that one thing that peeved me a bit about this anthology was that I feel that it has an old-school take on yuri - a lot of each is either tragic or overly dramatic, or far too subtle and makes you doubt if the relationship was just a deep connection between women with no romantic interest. But I do think there have been different takes throughout the years of yuri relationships, and stories that do focus on strong female relationships (which are not necessarily yuri) have also fallen into this category in the past. Which is not a problem per se, but it does lead to some disappointment, I guess.

There’s only a few weeks left, at least; it’ll be nice to have a fresh new nomination for people to read. I haven’t been reading this one, but it’s been a much longer one than normal book club picks, which can end up being pretty tough if you’re not invested in the story at all.

Don’t
At the very least it can now become a funny inside story about the ambiguous questionable “Yuri in the title” :joy:

Plus tbh with the author of 裏世界ピクニック thee I would have thought there would be more lol
