Intro

I’ve been forgetting about this site from the amount of things on my head, but I still try to keep up my learning, even though I read MUCH less than I did before (even in other languages unfortunately).

This learning log is my latest attempt at making my learning more consistent (I’ve been trying to do so through HelloTalk or Anki too but it didn’t work well).

Japanese

I’ve been reading only very specific manga I’m a fan of, or very light things in general. Mostly things with furigana.

Unfortunately I also completely abandoned all book clubs I’ve been in or was responsible over…

It’s too bad and I can feel my abilities to read without furigana getting weaker, but I’m allowing myself some corners to leave out of my cleaning since I have too much to do as is.

Currently I’m very slowly rereading ババンババンバンバンパイア.

What I’m doing is each time I notice something I know I couldn’t have read without furigana, or some kind of cultural phrase I don’t know by heart, I screenshot and blank over the furigana, and add the word with the context to an Anki deck.

I’m actively doing very few of them each time as to not exhaust myself (max 10 words at a time).

Arabic

I restarted my Arabic self learning course with a friend. So far we’re properly sitting every week before class for an hour or two. Going over the basics with someone who doesn’t understand as much as me has been great for me to understand things I forgot about or didn’t understand completely in the first place.

We’re very slow since he isn’t used to reading in Arabic and has been forcibly trying to read everything anyways, but it’s good for me since I write down things in the meantime.

Yiddish

Yiddish has been completely abandoned unfortunately, which makes sense since learning 2 languages during these hectic times is already too much…

I still have the notion notebook I need to finish the migration of from discord, but it’s mostly done. I just need to go over the word and phrase bank and finish the details and translations and etc…

2026 goals

After receiving some advice regarding yearly goals I have decided to be a bit more loose and practical about them, hence some of them are a bit weird, there are very few, and they will be updated as the year goes on.

I don’t think I have one?
I specifically remember thinking “I have other means I don’t see the point as of now”, maybe I tried anyways? I’ll try looking through my threads I guess

nice log! Using furigana and Anki really helps for Japanese reading. Have you tried small daily sessions to keep consistent? It might also make revisiting Arabic easier

I did actually, it’s how I got to the max 10 words solution in the first place :smiling_face_with_tear:
I’m just sticking to what I can do for now :blush:

Weekly update:
I’m simply too busy, and when I’m not busy I’m too tired, it’s a vicious cycle, but I’m trying to do the minimum.

Japanese

As of now I’m doing the Baban Anki even if I don’t update it.
Since I can do it in between other things so far it’s going okay, and when I have 30+ minutes off I even practice writing down the Anki words.

Arabic

I couldn’t meet with my study partner this week due to an event, we should be meeting again in the regular time next week instead.
Since I’m doing the japanese Anki I haven’t been doing the Arabic one as much, hopefully I’ll find some way to balance the two.
