I saw this as the title of the 90% off section:
and figured it means that one can get (just) one volume (from the whole list) for 90% off, but maybe it simply means that each of the listed volumes is 90% off

Ah, right. I think it means that the first volume of these series is 90% off. (Japanese ambiguity at its finest)
Ahaha, point taken
Shall we plan a horror read for August? Anyone interested?
Depends on the book, but I’d be interested. I have to make up for all those months without book clubs.
リカ is on sale for ¥372 on amazon. I think this was a nomination in the original WK thread
I guess a poll is always better than an open question.
For those answering yes or maybe, this is the time to suggest books to read if you have something in mind. It doesn’t need to be an official nomination in terms of format, we are keeping it informal here for now.
I’ll list the horror books I already own and others I’ve been eyeing in a day or two when I get the time in the next post.
Here’s what I already own (so many ):
It’s classified as horror, but I suspect it will be of the gentle, Japanese kind.
(the above is classified as suspense rather than horror)
(this I also suspect to be very gentle, not scary at all)
Suspense rather than horror
Suspense rather than horror
And here are some that I’m keeping an eye on:
Heh, @bungakushoujo has been trying to get me to read this for some time. I believe it has some intense content warnings
Horror is my favorite genre so I would like to join, but it will depend on the book we end up choosing, and the pace.
For pace I’m thinking totally informal, one thread for the whole book with spoilers clearly marked, with a vague goal of finishing within August but anyone can start later and/or read slower if they so wish.
Of course if there’s enough interest for a structured club with a set pace, we can definitely consider it.
And please, suggest books you’d be interested in!
(Manga also allowed, I think. Why not?)
Yes I wouldn’t necessarily call this horror, but it is quite grotesque.
I also own ナキメサム, so I’d be the most interested in that one. I’m also interested in 天使の囀り since I’ve seen the cover around so much. In general I’m pretty down to read anything, though!
Mmm; the back cover blurb categorises it as 怪談×青春×ファンタジー which I think is a better guide than “horror”. I liked it a lot; it’s very atmospheric.
I’d be interested in joining, depending on the book.
I actually have 0 knowledge of Japanese horror, so I’m not sure I have any particularly good ideas for nominations.
The only thing I can think of is, I would be interested in reading some Junji Ito manga,
perhaps うずまき 1 | L27
Let’s give some time for nominations/suggestions. We can have a poll on July 14. If lots of nominations come in I’ll remove some from my own list, otherwise I see no reason not to include everything in the poll.
I’ve personally already read (the first volume of ) うずまき (which doesn’t mean it won’t be in the poll), but I might be interested in a different Junji Ito.
If manga is on the table, I already read it but would be willing to re-read ウツボラ 1 | L33
It’s probably leaning a bit more unnerving/bizarre than horror, but I really enjoyed it.
I have no real preference of うずまき over any other Junji Ito.
So I would be completely fine うずまき being replaced by any other in nominations.
(So if anyone wants to suggest another one, that would be OK by me too)
I voted yes, but it will depend on the book as always.
Things I have on my TBR, though I am not sure it’s Horror, just nominating based on book label:
I keep coming across 墓地を見おろす家 in horror lists. I’d be interested to read it.
楽園 is described as 官能ホラー? Intriguing…
The other two look more like mysteries with a supernatural element to me, but of course I have no idea.
I think I’ll need to make a natively list with all the suggestions to keep better track. Will link here once I have it ready.
