The chapter lengths for this volume are as low as 4 pages and as many as 18. 3, 4, and 5 weeks break up into mostly equal reading weeks, but 6 weeks is a bit rougher with where some of the 18 page chapters fall.

If it helps to decide, the manga looks like it only has furigana on names, and has a decent amount of text per page. I looked through a few pages and the first page seems fairly representative of the amount of text on an average page.

First page text density

How quickly would you be comfortable reading?
  • 3 weeks | ~48 pg/week
  • 4 weeks | ~35 pg/week

Aaaaaaaah! I don’t follow the 癒系 book club at all, but that’s one of my favorite manga series! The titular 転校生 is just adorable.

Life™ keep getting in the way, but our poll closed a few days ago with a tie between 3 and 4 weeks, and since most of the votes were duplicated across the two choices, I made the decision to have us read the book in 4 weeks (schedule above). See you all in a few weeks when we start on Feb 24!

:tada: Looking forward to it!

And we’re off with week 1, in which our 転校生 encounters a 死神?!

If anyone is reading the ebook and wants to share end percentages for the weeks that would be great! I uh… liberated my copy and don’t have ebook percentages in my reader.

Booklive doesn’t have percentages for manga either  I guess it’s more common to have page numbers for manga,

Amazon does (I’m pretty sure?), and I can load it up into my Kindle if need be. But also if no one else is reading on Kindle it probably doesn’t matter

I’ll be reading on Kindle, but I’m going to be in a weird situation for the next few days where I’ll have little/no Internet access, so if no one has gotten back to you by the end of the week I can.

I checked with a random free manga on the kindle app, and you are correct! It shows both pages and percentage (feels redundant to me, but why not).

Not gonna lie, the whole gimmick is getting stale only after 4 chapters. I hope they introduce more development down the road (they probably will, there’s no way that’s the extent of it, considering how many chapters there are).

@Naphthalene is up to current with the series I believe and could speak to it better than I can. In the anime at least, there’s a fair bit of character and plot development, but I don’t know how many volumes the show covers.

It was annoying to check, since chapters don’t have titles, but the anime covers 5 volumes. The last episode doesn’t match anything I can see, but I remember discussing (with you?) the fact that it was an anime original to sort of end the story. There are 14 more volumes past that point, so I can say it’s very much not over. (Currently, the story is aiming for an end, though, so I would expect it to wrap up in one more volume or two)

It’s funny, you are the second person I see saying that. (I think the other person even ended up dropping the series at that point)
But yes, there will be development, from week 2 even.

Finally catching up!

Week 1: Oh my gosh, 高田くん is so cute! I love pure cinnamon roll airheads, so he’s basically perfect. Maybe even more than perfect with that amazing おひげ sweatshirt.

@shitsurei week one ends at (Kindle) 23%! Onto week two…

Week 2: (ends on 46% @shitsurei) ?! The おひげ is on the water cooler in the nurse’s office as well? I didn’t realize I’d need to be keeping an eye out for it Waldo-style. :open_mouth:

Anyway, still cute; this is a great 癒し系 pick, I feel. Nothing but good vibes. And it’s so easy I’ve had to look up maybe one of two things just to check my understanding, which is new for me. Hoping I can go there whole book without a “real” lookup!

He is the cutie-est patootie-est of all and he melts my heart. He is the single reason why I just binged that series (and am looking for the next volume coming out in 2-ish weeks)

I think it’s an apparel brand (or something like that) in-world, so it does show up in a bunch of places.

Isn’t he the best? I love how 西村 is always breaking down things practically for him and he’s just like “nope, doesn’t compute” and then proceeds to be the most 癒し系 as possible in the situation.

It’s been a while since I saw the show but I’m glad that I’m enjoying the manga just as much. I was a little worried (but not that worried).

It’s also somewhat of a mascot of the anime, little ohiges show up in the background animation of the opening or ending songs too, iirc.

You make me want to watch the anime, but it’s only on U-next

It’s on Crunchyroll, which is helpful everywhere but Japan :upside_down_face:
