Started reading this week’s chapters over the weekend and then finished them after waking up at 4am this morning so looks like I’ll be early to the discussion this time.
Thoughts
Don’t have much to say this time around except that when I started chapter 35 for a second I thought the plot twist was going to be that Mia is actually just mediocre at dancing but thinks she’s really good lol. Would have been hilarious but not sure I could have coped with the second hand embarrassment.
I’m enjoying this book way more than I thought I would tbh. I initially didn’t think I would read past the first book but now I’m conflicted. I really like the story and main cast but…there are 18 volumes… and it’s still ongoing?? I don’t think I want to even try catching up and I’m not sure if the story’s going to even stay good that long. I guess I’ll make my final decision on whether to try and continue the series or not after I finish the first book but I’m still curious what everyone else is planning on doing.
Look, I get that you’re doing that for Mia, but… have you considered asking Mia if she wants it and if she even has a problem with the current situation? She’s right there, you know.

I know from the anime what it’ll (probably) contain, and I guess… it’ll be all of that in one chapter then?
I’m curious what made them decide to do put it all in one chapter. Maybe because they want to keep it all together because it’s a short jump back in time? Still, it’s a bit weird; there’s been plenty of other parts where I felt like they could’ve fit very well together in one chapter, e.g. everything that just happened at the party to Mia.
She spent the same amount that you pay for a dress (that is apparently nice enough that she’d consider it for Mia if it wasn’t a bit too big for her) on presents for the school staff? Nice.
@fallenfrost my plan for the future is to read vol 2 as well and stop there (in Junior Bunko that’s volumes 1-4).
Apparently the first story arc ends with volume 2 so I hope to get some sense of accomplishment/completeness.
Week 6
Something about “guys want girls with no makeup and it must hurt girls who do makeup oh-so-much” and “making the man look good when dancing” rubbed me the wrong way.
As much as I’m entertained my Mia herself, romance here is something I’ll most likely not enjoy /chanting for more plot and more Mia/
Her possible partners are OP saint-like guy (that doesn’t fit her personality-wise, even before we get to her (now almost baseless) guillotine fear) and a timid boy she needs to coach. Meh.
So I completed this week’s while away. It was hard finding some time to sit down and read while listening on the go.
Junior vs Audiobook grumble
Chapter 37 starts wildly different and has some of the inner content also changed. Made me lost and had to repeat the thing because I thought I was either in a side-story or I jumped/skipped chapters. The fact that this is when we moved from Vol. 1 to Vol.2 in the Junior version didn’t help.
I don’t have in had the normal edition of the book to compare them now, but I think the first part is missing, maybe put in a later chapter since it’s a jump in the timeline?
Thoughts on 34-37
Not much to say for me, other than 37 was really hard to follow with what I previously mentioned and also when speaking the narrator about the relationsihps between nobles and the responsibility and such of how it falls on Mia’s hands indirectly… it was just too many words I didn’t understand.
Was nice to see some good-heart Mia in chapter 36 with Abel and not because of the Guillotine route avoidance.

Is it still ongoing? I thought it was finished. When I bought the set, it said complete series. Usually when it’s on-going they don’t describe as complete series, but I may be wrong.
My current plan is to continue. I was wondering if we could move forward with an informal club after we are finished, but with so many dropping I don’t know if there would be any demand even in an informal fashion
Any reason why stopping at Vol 4 when there’s 6 volumes of the Junior version if I may ask? Is vol 5-6 not a complete arc?
The original story in the web novel was vol 1&2 (normal edition, the whole guillotine thing), then it got popular and continued. Seems like the anime covers these two volumes (I didn’t watch it)
The next story arc is marked as 3-7 of the normal edition If I am to commit to a long non-furigana series, I’ll do Honzuki first
I really tried with Honzuki, and in fact I have all the novels and audiobooks. I might give it another chance in the future.
If I like the story of Tearmoon (which so far I do), I might go full bananas, and that means continue reading the hard books along the audiobooks, then read the english translation by J-Novel to see how much I missed / didn’t understand. But that’s a big if, as it’s effectively consuming it twice or three times, depending on how you look at it.
Also I’ve done a bit of digging and indeed the series is not finished… though by the time I catch-up it probably will . It would be a cool problem to have anyway if I got up to date, that means I would have successfully read the 18 volumes, so I wouldn’t complain too much either way…
The English translation is great and how I discovered the series originally, so it’ll be useful to check details for sure! I need to read the last 3 volumes I don’t own, but I’m trying to read the last 6 books in my 積読 before I do a book order. This thread is really making me want to order them earlier though!
Wow! That was a long last chapter! Interesting to hear that the Junior edition is different, as I thought while I was reading it “I bet they added this and this and this bit in order to bring readers back up to speed if they took a break between volumes.” Were there other things that were changed? Someone said a whole part doesn’t happen til later in the regular volumes?
I’m not as excited to read about Mia wowing her peers at a dance party as I am to read about her exercising her power and influence to fix problems in her home country, but the story remains cute and funny enough to keep me reading anyway. I liked that she got sneezed on by a horse. And it’s nice to see her getting to live a better life now that Anne is (unbeknownst to herself) teaching Mia how to behave.
I enjoyed Anne righting wrongs in Mia’s name in chapter 37. I think Mia would 100% still fail her second go around at this story if she didn’t have Anne. And Ludwig! So this story is kind of about how you might not be able to change things all on your own, but together with your friends you can change the course of history! Aww.
With regards to whether or not I will continue the series, I do want to read through the end of the first arc. After that I’ll just see how I feel. If I end up reading volume 5 and 6 (of the Juniors, which I already own) and want to continue then I’ll have to switch over to adult so that’s a much bigger commitment.
