Gah, I overshot our ending line by a good 10 pages for week 4. I just kept reading and reading, thinking, “wow, this must be a longer chapter than I remember!” Will post my thoughts later once I’m home.

I’m still in this but on pause because of that move I mentioned. I’ve not even started week 3. I think I’ll be back on track in week 6. So see you guys in the next thread

I am following along, but haven’t really found time to comment  I am having a good time so far, though!

Edit: Oops, sorry Naphthalene; didn’t mean to reply to you.

Week 4

「俺の服では、お前の指先とつま先は一生、太陽を崇めないだろうからな」

I liked this turn of phrase, haha.

驚きの連続に感情がかなり麻痺していて、男に体を舐められたことへの嫌悪感までは湧いてこないが、とにかく羞恥の念が強い。

That’s unexpectedly kinky of you, 正路. :eyes:

Overall a pretty chill week, I think. I always have a little bit of trouble visualizing the house, especially the 茶の間 and how that’s all set up. I probably need to be a little bit better in checking word pronunciations with some of this stuff, but it’s so very tempting to just skip over if I know what they’re talking about…

Also, I was out reading at a local mall yesterday, and just noticed my bookmark was gone. I must’ve left it accidentally.

Ah, and I’m also thinking :genie: and :red_car: for the thread emoji. Our curt ご主人様 here isn’t an actual genie or anything, but if you need to represent a being appearing from a container…

Just finished this week! I don’t have a ton to say… our 妖魔 isn’t quite what I expected (how domestic :face_with_hand_over_mouth:). A lot of descriptions of the house and other scene setting. I’m def enjoying reading it though (although so many lookups ).

Week 4

I thought at first he was saying something weird (like, your clothes pale in comparison to my amazing clothes) but it was just about the length, lol!

I have to say, I enjoyed how 正路 was relatively quick at adapting (“anyhow, this guy saved my life and I’m his servant now, so I guess I should express my thanks and not have him wait too long”) - I do like how he thinks more practically here, and even if he doesn’t really understand what ご主人様 actually is, he’s able to act based on his knowledge so far.

I’m enjoying the descriptions of the house, but I might have to google some pictures of traditional Japanese houses to help visualize it as well.

I’m not sure if I missed the halfway point, but I was delayed from last week so I’m just reading till the end of the chapter anyway.

It works! I’ve been enjoying the dual-week setup so far; I feel like it allows for a bit of extra flexibility compared to just one thread per week.

Week 5

It’s a pleasant read so far. 司野 is surprisingly responsive and patient with 正路, answering all his questions and giving him (and us readers) an actual good overview and background of the situation. I was actually expecting 司野 to be a more unpleasant character after his introduction, but for a 妖魔, he seems quite nice

Agreed, I feel like I have a bit more control on my own pace when reading the whole chapter.

I really liked this week’s section: we get a proper introduction to 司野 and his background, and 正路’s able to show a bit more of his positive side! Honestly I think the two make a pretty good pair: 司野’s able to just blunt-force his way through 正路’s shell, and 正路 is a pretty understanding roommate for 司野. Even the humor was pretty well done, I thought: 司野 describing why his master made him so tall, as well as his admission that it just wasn’t worth it in the long run to repeatedly consume and then fix 正路’s body.

Yeah, I think his bluntness and sometimes lack of social niceties overshadows that he’s a surprisingly decent person for originally being a 人食いの妖魔.

Finally some sense of calm!

Week 4

I loved this one too! Made me feel like there’s hope here, he’s at least attentive to things like that.

Not sure what I think about “you’re clean because I licked your body all over to drink all that blood” moment. Was that a friendly reminder that Masamichi is food, or was that supposed to be possibly sexual in a faraway fangirls-will-squeal way? Not sure yet.

Our boi going for “ok, idk what’s going on, but he’s more important than a boss and he saved my life, I’ll be polite and grateful ASAP” - such a good baby :face_holding_back_tears:

Master provides
Master cooks
Master takes care of clothes
Master says “improve yourself” (to serve me better)

Now let’s figure out how serving looks and we might just be golden, there is some hope here

正路’s a good cinnamon bun. :face_holding_back_tears:

Lmao, I had the same thought. “I’m your master now! You can’t embarrass me, so here are all the ways I’m going to provide for you and improve your life.” 正路’s karma is finally coming in clutch.

Caught up yesterday night, that’s almost on time lol

Week 5

More background! Yay! And they are still having a proper conversation! Yay!

I’m a bit confused if the spirit in the prologue is Shino - if his master made him into his current body and made sure he can’t shape-shift out of it, how would he be sealed? Just magical mumbo-jumbo?

Shino is very open with information, I like it.
One of my favorite parts is
“I’m not sure how to react when you’re saying something like this” (re: human eating monster thing)
“Then don’t react, just listen”
Damn, our boy Masamichi really needed someone like that

Also uhm, the whole
“So what of me are you going to eat?”
“I’ll think about it”
Is this going to be sexy stuff? I think at this point it’s either small doses of blood or sexy stuff

Why not both

I believe this is discussed later in the book; I’ll put the answer under spoilers in case you’d rather wait.

Yes, spirit in the pot in the beginning was Shino. I don’t remember the exact details of how his master smushed him into the pot, but Shino does mention that when he’s too weak to maintain a human form he just kinda hangs around as a spirit, so he was likely weakened (on purpose or otherwise) before being sealed.

Thanks, I appreciate the clarification haha
The more I read, the less I understand what prologue has to do with anything in the story :joy:

Silly thoughts

I even thought that maybe Masamichi is related to a guy that broke that pot and his bloodline is cursed

Or that the guy overturning those graves in prologue didn’t find good ehhh “haraishi” to get the spirits off his back and Masamichi is related to him instead

Anyway, I looked at all the wrong people lol
