A genre I’ve never heard of is incredibly stimulating for my ADHD

Maybe I got turned off after reading too much distasteful fantasy? 😛

I’m intrigued that (seemingly) everyone else correctly/identically identified which way the scale worked, besides me 😅

I didn’t, I had to read the other comments first before I voted because we use the scale both ways at work and I never know which way to use it 😅

This is sorta like how I never know which direction/order to read random meme panels in anymore 😅

I also voted wrong, scrolled down, realized my mistake, scrolled up and revoted.

My current feeling on this new style of Discourse poll is: No.

I thought it worked the same direction as you did, but luckily (?) I couldn’t submit due to overlap, so I read the comments and learnt what the order is supposed to be. You’re definitely not alone in your confusion 😉

Nope, I also voted the wrong way around initially (and corrected my vote after the numerous explanations of how it is supposed to work 😅)

On one hand perhaps I should’ve included an explanation from the start, and on the other it looks like it’s a good thing I didn’t. Good to see all the confusion and pain points with the polls.

I mean, it literally doesn’t even say it’s ranked voting anywhere in the poll (only when it’s created). A much better UI would be a drag and drop approach where the left side shows all options and you drag them to the right side in your priority order. I think this would make the intent much clearer.

I was thinking that you get a single dropdown where you are to asked select your favorite entry, then after selecting you get another dropdown with the remaining options from which you select the second-best entry and so on. But yours is much more intuitive to understand and much easier to modify, I think. 👍

Back on topic, I started both [裏世界ピクニック 1 ふたりの怪異探検ファイル | L33](https://learnnatively.com/book/d5414a2683/) and [博士の愛した数式 | L34](https://learnnatively.com/book/492783402f/) because I was indecisive, but I think I’m going to continue with the latter for now. Not that I’ll necessarily remember, but I love learning the Japanese words for square root, factorial, and so on. Hopefully some of the geometry terms a learned a couple years ago will come up!

I also think I need to refrain from buying more physical manga for a few months. I was tempted to already buy some more in August or September, but there’s probably not enough to be worth it. If I wait until the end of November, there should be new volumes of [お兄ちゃんはおしまい! | L22](https://learnnatively.com/series/487b11b1a0/), [雨夜の月 | L23](https://learnnatively.com/series/684e824519/), and [星屑テレパス | L24](https://learnnatively.com/series/78fb6290d0/) available (hopefully), so it probably makes more sense to wait for those and get through more of my backlog. After all, I still have all of [箱入りドロップス | L21??](https://learnnatively.com/series/64a2814c8f/) (just started), half of [青い花 | L26](https://learnnatively.com/series/4e24b93e8b/) (long hiatus), and all of [満月をさがして | L24](https://learnnatively.com/series/16fdd82010/) (not started), plus random other digital manga to read.

To be fair, I actually enjoyed the last 2 isekai ([わたおし](https://learnnatively.com/book/ad6480c84e/) and [転天](https://learnnatively.com/book/5af12b0bd5/)) I tried. But I do become significantly less inclined to try something, if all I know about it is that it’s isekai…

The newest half chapter of 雨夜の月 is up btw, and it turns out it is only the preceding two that stay free, sadly

Thanks. After reading the first unbound chapter I decided I’d rather continue in a binge format and just read the physicals when they come out.

The first volume and only first volume is out of print for some reason, so annoyingly I had to buy the first volume used and then buy the rest new like usual.

That makes sense… if I wasn’t already keeping up with a bunch of things on a chapter basis, I’d probly do that too.

Good to know about 青い花, tho I’ll probly buy them all used tbh

I started reading [三面記事から見る 戦前のエロ事件 | L30??](https://learnnatively.com/book/6d3363f207/) on a whim because I’m forcing myself out of this reading slump, and it’s been fun as a casual read. It’s very much on the “pop” side of pop history, with accounts in the newspapers being pretty much taken at face value unless scientifically impossible (ex: no, humans cannot cross species mate). But, if you walk in knowing that, I think I can recommend it as long as the subject matter doesn’t bother you.

I was curious about who wrote it though, because it was very clearly not a historian and I found this about the author:

> 1963年、横浜市出身。トラック運転手、学習塾の時間講師、コンビニ店長、経営実務資料の編集、販促ツール等の営業、フリーペーパー記者、派遣労働者、夜間工場内作業員など数々の職業を経験。
> 91年からフリーライターとして活動開始。歴史や世相、庶民生活などといったジャンルのほか、企業関係や事件・犯罪に関するテーマも手がける。現在、肉体労働系の仕事と平行して執筆業を続けている。

And now author, a true Jack of all trades!

That sounds like the path of unpopular authors. I remember that the author of [先生とそのお布団 | L28](https://learnnatively.com/book/957fdeb453/) does part time jobs on the side. That sounds like the extreme version of it.

Their direction is good, the UI is just terrible at communicating what it’s about. What I thought was “Rate how much you like it on a scale from 1 to 8.”, which is pretty ambigious in whether 1 or 8 is better. But it’s a ranking like “Rank your favourites: 1. …, 2. …, 3. …”, which I think could be pretty clear with a better UX.

I actually quite like isekai, I’m just joking considering it’s terrible reputation. (Although yeah, the genre _is_ full of garbage.)

I wonder if I’d like the 転天 more in it’s light novel form. I watched the anime, and the beginning was absolutely glorious. But the latter part soured me on it, both with the completely unnecessary brother/sister fight to the death that was suddenly over and everyone forgave each other and the Euphyllia sacrifice drama. Maybe the first thing was rushed (or I just poorly understood it), and the anime ended at the latter part, so who knows how that’ll pan out. (No spoilers please.)
