2024 Bingo Reading Challenge ☑️

I wasn’t even thinking about reshuffles, but I was hoping everyone would share because it’s more fun that way!

I’m already making plan in my head, especially since I noticed that

That would be 吾輩は猫である | L48
It’s been in there so long, I moved it to a “probably never” list I had on my twice former computer.

That book also fits:

and

My “extra” goal is to fill the grid in as few books as possible, but that’s not very quantifiable, so instead I decided to only count books that fit at least 2 spots (possibly already filled, to avoid deadlocks). In that context, that book could give me a bingo in a single shot :stuck_out_tongue: (especially with the help of the free spot)

I’m getting kinda confused with the rules, having never played actual bingo before.

A bingo is filling 4 squares in a row, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, right?

2 bingos would be 2 such rows, 3 bingos 3 such rows etc, even if they share a square.

What is a free square? In bingo baker I’ve seen the middle square be named free, and being already filled in. In our case all squares have assigned names, so does “free” mean that we can choose to replace any one square with a challenge of our choosing? And can we do that at any time, or only in the beginning?

Also, one book can be used to fill only one square, even it applies to many.

Have I got it all right?

It sounds like you’ve got it

With the basic rules, yes, but there are rule modifiers making it possible to fill multiple squares at once.

I don’t know if that has been decided  It’s somewhat harder if you have to decide at the beginning, or even more if you have to decide where to put it before randomly generating the grid.

Yes this is all correct, plus what @Naphthalene added!

Is it true that bingo baker automatically makes the middle space a free one, though? If there is no flexibility about where you can use the free space, maybe it’d be better to consider a different method to create the board. Planning bingo online is surprisingly hard!

That doesn’t really matter, since we have exactly 16 entries. The square marked “free” is the last one (and then we can manually decide where to put the actual free square)

gotta be honest, I really didn’t get how making the board is gonna work so photo explanations would probably work better for me at this point

Lol same, we need a tutorial! I can put together explanations at some point since I’m the organizer, I’ll just need to try it out myself first.

I think you can decide to not have a free space at all if I remember correctly. Not sure whether you can choose to put it somewhere else instead of the middle.

Well, when I had a look, putting the free space in the middle was a (pre-checked) checkbox. So I assume you can just uncheck it? Also, what is the middle of a 4x4 board?

 facts….

just let the maker make a 4x4 board and then cross out the 1 prompt you don’t wont to do (or ignore the freebie if you don’t need it).
or am I missing something? The posts make it sound so complicated.

Yeah that sounds about right, if we can choose not to have the free space we can turn it off and everyone can decide where to cross off on their own.

+1 to the cross the prompt you don’t want to do as the FREE substitute.

Haha I thought this was the meaning of the „free“ spot all along ^^ Like you get one field for free, like a joker card or something. Glad to hear that this is exactly where we now arrived at
