2025 Bingo Reading Challenge ✅

Slightly random question but for anyone who uses the images from their books to make completion, how do you do that with the link? Or is it a different program used?

These titles, like e.g. Regular, can be switched on/off in the discourse preferences. If a title is not visible that person probably hasn’t switched it on.

Nice trick @MintTea and glad that helped @mic !

I don’t know how others are doing it, but what I do is take a screenshot of the bingo card and put it in Excel (Google sheets or any image editor would work fine). Then I take screenshots of covers and size/crop to fit over a square. I make the cover slightly transparent so that even when it’s covering the square you can still read the text under it. That comes out looking like this.

Awesome, thanks. I’ve been trying to figure it out without having to try to get access to more expensive image editor software or having to boot up the laptop each time, as I like the look of it. I have access to Google sheets on tablet etc, though didn’t know I could do that with it.

I think it will work well on there, since it works fine on Excel! Or on Google’s version of powerpoint might be even easier. Basically the spreadsheet or slide just provides a background to move things around on it, resize, etc. And I’m pretty sure on the google ecosystem it’s possible to easily make imported images slightly transparent. Then when you’re happy with it you take a screenshot and crop it

Only if it was granted to you  (regular is an exception as it comes automatically with a badge)
Since no title was granted yet, there’s nothing to turn on.

Language: Japanese
Medium: Manga
Starting level: L28-30
Goal: Blackout

Thank you for hosting this challenge once again @bungakushoujo . I tweaked it like five times but I think I’m finally happy with my card  I took liberties with the wording and merged categories with poll choices I thought were similar. I did fully switch out “favorite color cover” because I just genuinely don’t have a color preference, and then slid “book about a book” into its place. I also chose “from the 90s” as a replacement for the birth year category, just so I can keep that detail to myself  I love comparing books to their adaptations, so I’m probably the most excited about that category

I also prematurely checked off the free space to see how I feel about the circle marker. I used a chunky swirl marker on my previous card, which I liked at first, but it started to get extremely busy visually toward the end imo

I use an image editor to make the book covers (and big swirly markers) partially transparent over my bingo card. I think I remember someone saying they used Powerpoint to edit their card? And I think Canva was mentioned in the previous thread, as well.

oh wow, I love your bingo card post and all the details of the books you’ve included below. may I please steal parts of your idea? :bowing_man:

Yes, absolutely! I had lots of fun updating my bingo post, I can’t wait to do the same this year too.

Decided to join in but as I’m still finding my feet with reading native content, I’ve only used a 4x4 card. I think 16 books could be doable in a year, but 25 is a bit close to being more than what I could manage, especially with one of the books I know is going to take me quite a while to actually read, and it at least gives me somewhere to start from.

My card:

I have something for each tile chosen already with one or two that could be swapped if need be. All except a book with a retired character in it, but I’ve got almost a year to find one :joy:

Mine was very fancy last year but I canceled my Canva subscription and don’t really feel like going through the effort of maintaining something nicer this time around. I’m also going for a 16 square bingo card as ~25 is how many Japanese books I typically read in a year and I’m not interested in shoehorning my books to fit.

So here is my simple, no free square, 4x4 card:

Here’s mine!

Probably going to fill most of these with manga, but a book book might sneak in a couple spots.

Here’s my card.

I’m going to try for the 5x5, but I’m still not entirely certain on my rules. Last challenge I excluded individual short stories and manga, but since I only read around 30 books a year I feel like that might be too restrictive. Do I allow audiobooks? Or maybe count x short stories as one book?

Current plan is start with the same ruleset as last time and re-evaluate a couple of months in.

Although I’m not feeling optimistic about my chances, I’m submitting my bingo card.

I don’t finish a lot of books - struggling to finish 13 before the year ends - so have simplified mine to a 4x4 board.

I’ve chosen all my books already (might have to change 2 of them if they are too hard though but I will try them in the later part of 2025 first), sorted out the faded images for putting on the card once I’ve read them and now I want to start reading them all early.

Maybe this is what I need to do to get my motivation to complete things, a bingo card with colourful pictures for every time I tick something off

For me that’d be OK, I myself already read a book of which I expect to finish it in January. But otoh I‘ll have to finish books before the end of next year to be able to count them.

I am very tempted, but I should probably finish reading the 4 I have currently started or I might get discouraged

Ready to submit my bingo card for 2025 :tada:

I switched some prompts to ones from 2024, and I changed “Favorite color” to “Favorite ship”

May switch around some of the titles I have in mind so far.
But let’s see how this turns out.

Filled Squares
  • 2nd volume of a series
  • Unexplored genre
  • Author I’ve read before
  • Char with disability
  • Curious title
  • One-word title
  • No ratings on Natively
  • Has cats
