re Vol 6. 滞在期間延長

Live at work.

Vol 6. 襲撃

Agreed. It’s a fun rock-paper-scissors situation. A weak magic user can go through undetected and work well as an assassin (and even kill a strong magic user/knight) but is caught by a weak knight, who would get steamrolled by a strong magic user.

re Vol 6. 神殿の昼食時間

I don’t remember that discussion, but it would make sense to borrow from her family, yes.

It’s kinda wild seeing your comments while knowledge of the full series. :joy:

Vol 6, ルムトプフと靴

I was actually thinking the same thing! Clothing in the 16th century would’ve used a lot of ties to keep everything together, so very similar to what Myne has going on here. Looks like that F&B info has seeped into your brain nicely.

Vol 6, 金属活字の完成

Hahaha, I can’t believe she actually passed out from excitement of the metal type. I figured something would happen, at least. I wonder if she’ll actually get sick from this or not.

Vol 6, 滞在期間延長

So her parents finally know now. The conversation went better than I expected, to be honest; I was kind of hoping they’d argue against it more, but it was nice that they acknowledged the 神官長’s efforts to keep Myne healthy, if nothing else. The book also finally deigned to remind me of Myne’s age; she’s seven now. I don’t know how the arcs are structured (they’re way too spoilery for that), but I’m curious if we’ll get another arc in between now and her at 10.

New anime season started Thursday! It’s season 4 of the anime (if you ask the creators or streaming services at least, but TMDB decided to ignore that and call it season 2 and combine seasons 1-3 into season 1, and this has unfortunately propagated into Natively).

It corresponds to Part 3 of the Light Novels, so starting at like Volume 8, so a little ahead of where we’re reading here.

Anyway, episode 1 feels like they crammed like 25% of a LN in there at typical Honzuki pace lol.

Prologue and 4 chapters in 20 minutes. I’m looking forward to reading the books later and felling up the gaps.

When I finished vol 7, my boyfriend got a director’s cut version of season 3 from me (it’s vols 6 and 7 if anyone’s curious) as I just kept pausing and going “WAIT– while in here, they also talked about this, and that cute thing happened, and this sentence was actually a chapter!!!”

Vol 6, 祈念式の準備

…ギルヴェスター seems like a real weirdo. Not sure I like him so far.

So work got on top of me and put all my Japanese activity on hold for a while (and also a new motivation for drawing didn’t help…), but I’m getting back into reading this now too.

Vol 6, 冬の日常

I think having us basically view Myne’s activities from Damuel’s point of view helps us see how extraordinary it is compared to how us as the reader (and people like Ferdinand, Tuuli, etc.) have seen it grow to this point gradually.

Completely fair, although I found him funny from the start. Well, more specifically, I found マイン’s inner thoughts of “what the eff is wrong with this guy” funny.

Vol 6, 襲撃

Pretty fun chapter! I’m slowly liking ギルヴェスター more and more; I’m curious what his background is. I think this was the first time Myne’s purposefully used magic in an emergency situation, right? Even if she got close to completely burning herself out. 神官長’s purposefully grossing her out with descriptions of what happens to a person’s body when they let their magic run wild was pretty hilarious.

Yeah, I really liked this particular piece of worldbuilding!

Vol 6, やりたい放題の青色神官

Now I’m wondering if ギルヴェスター is essentially being roped into acting as another guard for Myne, which is why he’s going through all the effort of inspecting her usual haunts. That, or 神官長 has him hunting down the nobles after Myne; ギルヴェスタ’s talking of wanting to “hunt” in the forest especially made me think so.

Vol. 6, 孤児院と工房見学

I had a feeling ギルヴェスター’s identity would be coming into play soon enough. Benno’s almost certainly going to spill the beans to us before the the of the book, seeing as they apparently already know each other.

I enjoyed that metal imagery of ギルヴェスター and the 神官長 inspecting the soup, haha. Never been in their own kitchens indeed.

Hopefully Myne doesn’t have to sit through too long of a lecture from 神官長 about everything she’s been getting up to; as @Kroki said in their thoughts on the chapter, he has been getting reports about all this stuff, and he does know Myne’s origins, so it’s really on him if he wants a tighter leash on her. Myne’s certainly not going to turn back because of a few lectures.

Vol. 6, 青色神官の贈り物

So this is unrelated to the chapter, but it’s something that keeps popping up every time she says his name: it just feels so odd to me for Myne to keep referring to ダームエル as ダームエル様 when he’s her guard. I guess it’s a complicated situation with her being a commoner and an apprentice, while he is from a legitimate noble family and a knight (though I’m not sure how much respect the latter are necessarily afforded in noble society just yet), and she’s not technically employing him… But he’s all the same essentially subject to her whims and essentially on probation. Just feels like 様 is too much for the situation and she should be using さん instead or something.

Also unrelated, but I’m still continually impressed by the audiobook narrator’s ability to keep giving all these characters fairly distinct voices, and she does a great job adding in particular quirks and nuances to their speaking styles. It’s going to be devastating if I ever watch the anime, haha.

:100: I totally agree with you here; he’s not even really trying to hide it, and it’s probably only because Myne is Myne that she hasn’t noticed it yet. I am curious if this is his regular personality, or if he’s faking it so as to lower Myne’s/everyone else’s guard around him.

Vol. 6, 神官長の話と帰宅

Lmao at Ferdinand using the whole “stop printing books for now” as an angle to entice Myne to agree to speed up her adoption progress. This was a great showcase of how she’s changed as a person, as well as how, through all the stuff she’s experienced so far up until this point, she’s still the same.

And wow, the baby’s going to be born! This feels like a good setup for a last chapter: hopefully only good things, and then something potentially exciting in the epilogue!

This is a really good point; her contact with the common man is already limited as a 巫女見習い, and it’s almost certainly going to get worse after she’s adopted. Plus, what about her cash flow? I’m assuming Karstedt isn’t going to be lending her money willy-nilly to fund whatever projects she comes up with, and while she does have some contracts in place for a long-term cash flow, she’ll almost certainly need to keep expanding her products for the short term. She’s probably going to need to re-locate her factory as well… And likely won’t be able to keep hiring underage children. :stuck_out_tongue:

(If someone could reply and break my chain, that’d be much appreciated. @Kroki, you haven’t read the next book yet, right? Or have you started already?)

That’s the one the main story of which I’ve finished during readathon and then read the side stories slowly during the week before the new season started.
I have my jumbly notes though, so I’ll joing the posting when you all start vol 7 without editing them.

Vol. 6, 青色神官の贈り物 - some more thoughts

To be fair to her, this is an adult noble with the personality of a middle school boy. I’d also be doing my best not to mind my own business lol.
Also, he’s been so weird since his appearance that by now Myne’s like “ok, he’s just weird, whatever”.

Vol. 6, 神官長の話と帰宅 - moneyyyy

He’s a high noble, right? How rich is that?
Can someone tell us upfront the pocket money expectations of an average noble 10-year-old, please? Asking for a friend /lmao/

…the idea of a girl coming up to you saying “Hi, I’m Myne, I am 10 years old, and my papa is the captain (?) of the knights order, please buy these cookies I made” is horrifying.
I’m imagining a whole stream of people who’re like “don’t kill me, I’ll buy it” and “of course I’ll buy it, I’ll even invest, how much mana do you have, you say? I’ve got a son about your age…”

You have admin rights, you should have any limitations of that sort.

Gah, I wish I could comment on stuff, but as usual, all I want to say are just spoilers…

Oh, really? I knew thread creators weren’t limited, but I didn’t realize admins weren’t as well…

That’s the worst part about group threads for long series. Once you know the spoilers it makes it really hard to have meaningful conversation.

Me: I want to read part 3 with full furigana, I’ll move to no furigana+audiobook after I’m out of full-furigana books (part 4)

Amazon: Oh, so you don’t need this 60% point-back on a combined no-furigana edition of the whole part 3 then?

Me: …what

Amazon: The whole thing basically for 2096 yen?

Me: …what?!

Vol. 6, 新しい家族 & エピローグ

Holy crap, the number of siblings Myne almost had. カミル is such a cute name; here’s to hoping the baby isn’t kidnapped by Myne’s enemies or anything.

デリア’s POV was honestly more sad than anything; her not seeing that Myne not giving her duties is more indicative of a lack of trust than of デリア’s “connections”, and for the future in her being set up in some way for that noble who “likes children”. イエニー did say they were looking for a child with 身食い, so I’m curious if a) デリア will be used as bait to draw Myne out, or b) that other little 身食い merchant girl who’s name I can’t recall will re-enter the scene in some way.

I hate the realities of childbirth there almost as much as I hate nobles.

Also it hurt to read that part in general.

Freeda!

Also hey, Epilogue! You’re almost done!
