Man, 壬氏’s chapters are always harder to read. Let me recap and see if I got all this right:

  • We get some more info about 高順: he’s 37, and has multiple (2? 3?) children and a newly-born grandkid. His wife was 壬氏’s wet-nurse, so 壬氏’s basically part of the family. We apparently met 高順’s youngest back earlier in the book; he was 猫猫’s guide when she was investigating that guy who died of bad seaweed. I want to go back and re-read that section to refresh my memory of the guy, but too tired now. @.@

  • 壬氏 and 高順 apparently have to take some sort of concoction before going into the 後宮, and have been for the last five years. I’m not too sure about all this: it sounds like it’s something that came from another country (or, at least, one of the ingredients did, a potato, maybe a sweet potato), and I got the impression that it’s supposed to mimic the effects of someone being a eunuch? At least, I’ve always been under the impression that 壬氏’s not actually a eunuch, and this chapter made it sound like 壬氏 is actually just the name he goes by while acting like a 宦官. I’m real curious what effect this concoction is supposed to achieve. Lowering testosterone levels temporarily?

  • Looks like our old friend 玉葉妃 might be pregnant again~ 猫猫’s “special training” has apparently been rather effective. 猫猫 is sent to investigate.

Okay, I think that’s all. Like I said, 壬氏’s chapter take more effort for me to understand, so I’m a bit worried I’ve missed something.

Yes, I always thought it was like a testosterone blocker. It’s a real thing, although I’m unaware of a natural medicine way of making those (I’m not an expert though)

Well, I don’t know if you missed anything but I remember all those things so you at least got them right.
