Class-S (and Related) Reading Club - マリア様がみてる

Ok マリア様がみてる 1 | L29 is our official first pick. There’s now a Home Thread

Idk whether “nominal start date of Jan 12th” (based on poll results) or “just consider it started, now that there’s a home thread” makes more sense. Anyone have any input?

Consider it started at this point!

It just occurred to me that (fictive kinship)[Fictive kinship - Wikipedia] is probably a major theme in class s. I know お姉 gets used for non blood related people. But calling all your upper classmates お姉様 is a little unusual, I think. And the sour/sister/scheester system seems to be another more profound form of fictive kinship (maybe a little like blood brothers?).

And then 行進子犬に恋文を | L23?? suddenly makes a lot of sense given that the military is often given as an example for fictive kinship.

Not following, where is anyone doing this?

I think it’s a rectangle/square thing. Some sister relationships may be like that, but others may not.

マリア様がみてる. I’ve only read the first section. But it has the phrase あこがれお姉さま.

I was also thinking of 青い花. Though there I think it was with a larger age gap, making it more expected.

あこがれお姉さま is singular tho? And the only places I’m seeing it, it’s あこがれお姉さま (i.e. the person char A wants to have as their お姉様). Any chance you could post the sentence(s) you have in mind?

Edit: there’s also 上級生のお姉さま方 - but even there I don’t think it’s referring to all upper classmates

It’s been too long since I’ve read 青い花 so idrc about that

マリア様がみてる first chapter, first section

あこがれのお姉さまと、初めて言葉をかわしたというのに。

I thought あこがれ meant she is looking up to this お姉さま. I guess it might have meant she wanted her as a sister?

Since it’s the first time they were taking, I assumed she used お姉さま simply because she is older than her.

Right, あこがれ is tricky… can be used for admiration or desire

Mm all I’ll say for now is she’s referring specifically to Sachiko, and not anyone else, in this scene.

I think regardless of the specific of the discussion above, you’re right about the core iddea here. After all one of the things S stands for is “sister”

I hadn’t been on this site in a while and totally missed this. I’ll probably skip the current pick since it’s already started (I do want to read the LN at some point but its a huge time commitment with how long it is. I have watched the anime & read the manga though).
I’ll keep an eye on this thread since a lot of the nominations are stuff I want to read.
