English Beta - Feedback from English Users

Hello Everyone!

As you may have noticed, I have added English to the site!

English users, let me know what you think! And any feedback you have, let me know. If you encounter a bug, be sure to log a bug report in the Product Requests category .

As an English native, am I supposed to have access to all of these options? I assumed I wasn’t meant to track books I’m reading in my native language.

The intention is that you can track books in your native language

As we don’t mind native users logging their books and writing reviews if they want (it’s great). We just prevent them from grading.

Also some funniness with selecting subtitle languages, these pop-ups aren’t clear about which English option is for learning and which is disallowed:

@brandon can you do bulk imports for us if we have English books logged elsewhere? What information would you need?

I haven’t checked an extensive number of books yet, but I’ve seen enough floating around in English and French that it might be worth double-checking that your book importer parser @brandon knows that the author “Last name, first name” should be parsed as “First name Last name” and not literally as two different names separated by a comma.

I’ve seen issues with R. F. Kuang already, which Natively considers to be two different authors, Kuang and R. F..

A lot of books (at least on amazon.com) also seem to have various random comments added to the title, which then get imported to natively. I’ve been cleaning these up, but for anyone who notices this as they’re adding a book, don’t hesitate to make a feedback report so we can fix the title!

I added some children’s and YA stuff but I kept forgetting to click the “series” button does that mean the system won’t populate a series?

It will not in that case, but just drop a feedback note and a librarian can set that up.

Recently I was about to buy some books of the Murder Bot Diaries series.

Now that I looked through my shelves to add my English books, I luckily discovered that I already own volume #1 of the series (still in the queue)

I think, I will read it in the readathon.

Ok, this should now be kinda fixed… for english we say ‘Your language subtitles’ instead of “Eng subtitles”… idk, I spent way too long trying to think of good verbiage and gave up .

Depends on where there from! The main issue is just adding all the appropriate new books. If it has ISBN or ideally an amazon id (ASIN) then maybe I could auto import?? Idk, don’t have in importer but it’d be trivial to whip up I think!
