Well, turns out I was completely right 
I hope nobody looks at that spoiler before finishing the series because it literally spoils the main part.
In the end, I really enjoyed that series! Mostly for the cast and costumes, though. I had to willingly ignore plot holes and shortcuts taken by the author (like Jack becoming the author of Hinana by randomly meeting an anime producer who asked him out of the blue about magical girls? How?)
I’m still not super happy about grown adults kissing a 12/13 yo boy (and expressing interest; King kinda gets a pass because he is still a kid himself despite being older; in my book only 渡 and 一花 are allowed to kiss him, and neither got to do so; poor 渡)
Still, in the flow of the story, it’s fine, I guess.
After reading the afterwords, I’m curious about reading more stuff from the author.
