Me too~ Excited to read everyone’s thoughts hehe.

 Right??

Spoiler chapter 1

I’m getting red flags just from chapter 1 … I feel like Asaka has some stuff going on with her. Or maybe she’s a nice girl and I’m just reading too much into it because the pacing is so fast?..

Looking forward to reading the rest of your thoughts on the future chapters hehe.

I felt the same… even if she already had feelings for her, it still kind of came out of the blue. I guess it’s the story hook, so the author maybe just wanted to introduce it early, but it did feel a bit weird how quickly it went. Especially considering that even if Asaka has feelings towards Hoshikawa, it still would feel weird for Hoshikawa to have feelings towards Asaka considering that the rest of the chapter, it seemed like she only knew her as “the popular girl in class”, right?

I don’t know how I felt about chapter 1, but I’m hoping that it’ll become more interesting towards the end~

Really enjoying the manga so far, in particular I really like the artwork in some of the panels! It looks really good.

Ch 1 spoilers

I agree with that the development at the very end of the chapter really feels like it comes out of the blue and feels forced. While it does seem that Asaka was (kinda?) interested in Hoshikawa from the start, it doesn’t feel like there was any of that the other way around… but maybe some future chapters will make that clearer.

There’s also the scene where Asaka just grabs Hoshikawa’s fallen manuscript and runs away with it, which feels a bit like overstepping her bounds… ? I kinda expected her to just let Hoshikawa dump the papers and come back later to retrieve them out of curiosity.

The rest of the chapter is quite nice though! I like the height difference, specially considering that Asaka being shorter is actually the more dominant personality-wise, which creates a fun moe-gap.

Dem, the level of detail on that doggo drawing!

Headpats!

Lovely panel

Ch 1 spoiler

Not really sure what problem people have with the end of the chapter.

That’s all consistent with Asaka proposing that they’ll date and Hoshikawa just standing their and saying nothing. It’s not like she reacted one way or another.

Hoshikawa is about one head taller than Asaka. Any panel (in this chapter) that looks like they are the same high is either Asaka tiptoeing or from a low angle.
(I actually think her being tall made me more sympathetic to her, as me and my family are tall).

Summary

Well, she does follow with saying that it’s how it all started between them (assuming that she means they really end up dating, maybe they don’t, but that’s implied), suggesting that she didn’t go like “Uhm, no, ew? I don’t even know you”. But maybe she does exactly that the next chapter. I feel like that’s how I would react in that same situation … and that would completely destroy the other person’s romantic chances with me for like 20 years into the future.

I’ve read up to chapter 3 now

Chapter 2

since 朝香 went so far as to find out 星川’s address before exchanging their contact info, it seems more likely now that she was already interested in her.

Chapter 3

both knowing where she lived, and paying that much attention to the books in her room almost comes off as stalker-ish

I have a bit of a theory now (though it’s only the 3rd chapter so I’m not too confident lol):
so now we know 朝香 is as much of a bookworm as 星川, and their tastes align so well that both like the same obscure authors. so it could be that 朝香’s taste in novels is so niche that she couldn’t easily talk about it with other people before, but when she read 星川’s novel, she was able to tell through her writing style that they shared similar interests. I think that would explain why she wanted to hang out with her so suddenly, more than if she had simply enjoyed her novel.

I agree completely! Just finished vol 1 now, and I just want to start reading vol 2 and find out how this all ends!

I’m joining the unimpressed people. So sad that it didn’t end up being an amazing first volume, but I’m glad that for the rest of you, you were intrigued enough to continue reading.

I think that I’m not going to continue to volume 2 simply because even the last chapter didn’t quite do it for me, but anybody who wants to take over the club is free to do so to continue with volume 2 :eyes:. I wasn’t a good bean anyway and got really sick, so I couldn’t continue reading until a week or so ago.

I didn’t quite feel connected to the characters, and they felt fairly… flat? It was nice that in chapter 5 we finally got to hear about that awful thing Hoshikawa did. But maybe it’s just me… but I expected it to be something way worse somehow…

I do agree that the 5th chapter was the most engaging so far, but because of the lack of substantial build-up, it just didn’t click for me, unfortunately, so the emotional impact wasn’t that great.

@taiyousea :eyes: did you end up reading it?

@moka Did you continue past chapter 3?

I thought the series was very good. Though I liked the characters very much. And I’m not surprised some don’t like them. It seems to happen pretty often with characters that aren’t very expressive or emotional that I quite like them and others really don’t.

No, I hear you. Between the two characters, I preferred Hoshikawa (who, I guess you could call not very expressive? I’m not sure. She’s plenty expressive in my eyes).

I just feel like the characters made no sense for me and the development felt really forced (we spoke it above in another discussion we had, I believe that was with you where we disagreed on that point that the romance hook and the reactions the characters had to everything makes no narrative sense in my eyes, and you said it works for you), but that’s just my own opinion of it. Everyone else really enjoyed it, especially post chapter 4 .

I tend to fall on the critical side of literary works, I suppose (or any media, really).

But it’s good that you’ve enjoyed yourself and it could resonate!

Well, she seems severely depressed. You could call that expressing the emotion of depression, I guess.

It really does get substantially better, even in vol 2. Fwiw I’ve never seen such a turn around in quality, from the beginning to end of the manga.

For volume 1 I agree. It improves next volume tho

Fwiw It’s fleshed out a lot more later on, and you even get to meet the victim, which creates for very good arc and character development

Anyway, I’m not usually one to tell someone to try to continue something they’re not into. But I genuinely think it’s worth trying another chapter or 2 before dropping it, fwiw.

 It’s so bizarre to me, you all keep saying it so I’m intrigued :sob:

On a scale of 1-10, compared to chapter 5, which I didn’t feel anything towards even compared to the rest of the chapters, how much better does it get?

:eyes: Maybe I’ll just … find it for “rental” and read the first chapter of volume 2, and if I like it, I’ll buy the 2nd volume.

Hehe also, I didn’t hate it or anything, so I’m glad you’re pushing me to check it out~~

10 - it’s genuinely one of (and maybe even) the best yuri I’ve ever read. Here’s my review for ch 2. As you can see, I gave Book 1 a 3/5 (without ch 5, it would have been 2), Book 2 a 4, and the rest 5 stars

Ok, I am convinced… I shall check out ch 1 of vol 2.
