And suddenly I come to your rescue! How unexpected and entirely not predetermined!
Jokes aside, though – I’m super excited too. It’s been on my TBR for a while as well, and I figured that it would be a good idea to just start an informal book club~ if this one works out, I have a bunch of other stuff I’m interested in reading
Totally just noticed this in my calendar… I got my physicals, and looking forward to finally reading it!! (Decent chance I’ll binge, but stick around for discussion)
Quick question for bookkeeping purposes - is the club going to be reading just the first volume, or the entire series? Or is that going to be decided once you read the first volume?
I just have the first one for now because I’ve learnt from past mistakes to not purchase manga that I might end up disliking . I have hopes for this one, though~
And if it the club works out well, I’ll just start a ridiculous amount of other clubs too because I want friends to read stuff with
Seems like the story is off to a pretty めちゃくちゃ start and 星川 has definitely caught my interest! I can’t quite tell where p 17 is, but やっぱり I’m gonna go ahead. (I’ll be careful about not spoiling, of course)
Thoughts on the *end* of ch 1
やっぱり、すっごくめちゃくちゃの始まりだよ!

This girl is nuts, and this whole setup is way sillier/more unrealistic than I was expecting. It’s a bit enjoyable, but can’t say it’s wowing me

She’s still nuts, but cool decision to make her a book nerd (well I guess that was already apparent) - anyway, now they actually have something connecting them besides some bizarre “let’s pretend to be a couple” out of nowhere. Looking forward to seeing where it goes

I really don’t like Asaka at this point, but that was an interesting “maybe there’s more than it seems on the surface” moment… there’s something it sorta reminds me of, but it might be spoiler-y to say, so I’ll leave it out
ch 5 + omake thoughts
水族館デート、素敵いい… oh, that’s not what I was expecting… えぇぇぇ!?This was the first chapter that felt genuinely good and interesting, and actually has me kinda hooked for what drama it’s gonna weave
The おまけ definitely seems like it’s introducing/foreshadowing something. Really excellent use of おまけ!! I didn’t bother with the あとがき cuz I wasn’t in the mood to decipher handwriting
Overall: I mostly enjoyed, but was unimpressed with vol 1 until the final chapter, which has me hooked for vol 2 for now. Update: I finished the whole series, and it just got better and better the while time. Absolutely incredible experience, imo
Yup, I think you’re right . That’s how I read it too.
p 20 would’ve been a better cut-off anyway, I was looking at the pages and trying not to spoil myself when I set the numbers . The reading speed here is very slow for a very chill pace.
I’ll read your thoughts in a few days once I’m done with chapter 1 . I got to the part where Shizuku finishes writing her novel and then is ready to delete it. So sad for her, I hope she ends up actually publishing it because people can honestly be absolutely awful in-person, but even more so online (it seems like she was bullied)… I’m interested to find out how she grows as a character. I have a super super soft spot for characters who struggle because of trauma / anxiety, etc.
Probly early enough that you could still adjust Week 1 to p20 then. Thankfully the only clubs I’ve run were things I already read, or didn’t care about spoilers for (bc I probly wouldn’t read them anyway). Otoh not caring about content does make it a bit tricky to identify good stopping points in novels
I secretly did that . I think I’ll edit it at the end if it doesn’t match well at all just for future people who join in and want to have some schedule to follow. I honestly don’t know how many people are planning to actually follow the schedule from those who wanted to join.
I’m the opposite hehe. Only thing I ever run are totally new to me, because otherwise I would be too bored and not take part shame on me.
The easiest is of course to say “1 chapter per week” always, but I wanted it to be beginner-ish friendly. Those who can read faster can always read faster hehe. But yeah, it’ll be ok~~
made it to page 20, I’ll probably stick to the schedule for now, there’s a lot of stuff I’m reading concurrently this month.
I imagine we’ll learn later what happened, that caused 雫 to start avoiding people, and I guess it’s probably linked to her anxiety when she was abou to publish her novel.
but I’m also a bit confused, because 傷つけてしまう (instead of 傷ついてしまう) made me read that part as if she had been the one who ended up hurting someone else
maybe someone can correct me though
continued this week, and ended up reading to the end of chapter 1.
that developement seemed too fast, unless probably 夏織 already had feelings towards 雫.
but honestly I was more surprised at their height difference in the final scene looking back it’s kinda noticeable in the color image at the beginning, though, haha.
