🌷 美しい彼 🐤 My Beautiful Man 📸 Home Thread

20-25 pages sounds nice to me. I would prefer to start in January, but if others want to start sooner I can as well.

I’m good to start anytime and good with 15-20. :slightly_smiling_face:

Seems like everyone will be happy with 20 pages/week, then. :slightly_smiling_face:

@bungakushoujo any preference on when we start?

Anytime is ok! :+1:t2:

Then I may go with this suggestion:

It will take about 16/17 weeks to finish the volume at 20pg/wk, so might as well get going. Week 1 will be starting Mon 27th November.

Hopefully I’ve included everything we need:

I’m thinking about making a vocab spreadsheet. It would be useful, but I’m not sure I’ll have time, especially if I want to include both :jp: and :kr::thinking:

I haven’t really bothered with making lists/flashcards up until now but I have an ebook so I can easily note any vocabulary/grammar that I think is more complicated than about N3ish, if that’ll help so you can focus on Korean – no clue how formatting that works though!

I won’t be joining you for the re read since I only just finished the last (interlude) book in the series recently, but I did start a rewatch of the TV series this week. I’ll definitely be with you in spirit. :baby_chick:

And, you know. Lurk the threads.

Just a minor note that your link here is now broken due to the merging of your study logs.

Just saw your 美しい彼 My Beautiful Man Series | Japanese list by bibliothecary | Natively, @bibliothecary! Very nice! When you get a chance, it’d be really nice to have descriptions of what each adaption corresponds to story-wise and when would be best to watch/read it. I’m sure you’re already planning to, haha.

The initial announcement probably slipped by me, but apparently a volume 4 has been confirmed! The publisher’s having a guessing game on Twitter for the title, haha.

It’s been announced! Book #4’s title is 「儘ならない彼」~

There’s an image of the cover in the link if it doesn’t render.

Phew, so I definitely have to say that this is a work that needs to be taken in in its entirety. I found the first part set in the high school utterly upsetting, feeling both sorry and frustrated by Hira’s strange ways of thinking. Safe to say that he’s one of the neurodivergent crowd lol.

The second part with Kiyoi’s POV is so insightful and creates a whole new dimension of the characters, and the way things play out makes a lot more sense.

I was impatient and listened to the BLCD covering the novel quite closely (in the book I’m still around page 100, wondering if I should just ditch the extensive lookups).

So far I have only watched the first episode of the drama, but I have to say that I like the audio drama much more, I think the voice actors are doing a great job portraying the complicated emotions while I wasn’t quite satisfied with the acting performance. The scene where Kiyoi finally clearly confesses his feelings to Hira after “breaking up” was one of the best, that shaky voice full of desperation, anger, shame, sadness, confusion, I still have goosebumps from it.

I finished the second installment recently and have some thought.

Basically I did enjoy it but again there were parts that dragged quite a bit. For most of the Hira POV I didn’t know if anything was going to happen at all. It was a lot of Hira having his weird thoughts (I love him like you love your mentally unstable friend but sometimes it was hard to get by).

I do relate to Kiyoi a lot in these moments, like Kiyoi acknowledges himself-that he is not without faults but at least he is self aware of that and works towards bettering himself in a constructive way. Hira on the other hand…

Anyway, I still did enjoy the novel a lot, especially when it got to Kiyoi’s POV. I love his character so much, he has so many different sides and still is so unapologetically himself.

Edit: And the last extra chapter where Kiyoi goes on a rant about Hira’s family is mwah chef’s kiss, I loved this humorous part.

How did you feel the second book felt difficulty-wise compared to the first? A lot of the same? More/less difficult for any reason?

Pretty much the same, maybe easier because you’re already used to the writing style.

Although there might be a lot more specialized vocab though because they focus a lot more on their respective careers (acting and photography).

:japanese_goblin: hahaha

If you enjoyed the Kiyoi character development parts that much then I definitely encourage you to read part III!
