The last of my orders from 2024:

レーエンデ国物語 series and guidebook (not currently on natively) The cover of the guidebook is plain under the large paper banner (my brain is not braining today and I have forgotten the word for those ).

Right most book is 彗星とさいごの竜, a kids book recommended to me for one of my 2025 Bingo squares.
Top 2 on the left and middle 2 on the left are 1-4 of となりの妖怪さん manga, bottom left is となりの妖怪さん side stories manga (not yet on natively) and right most of the bottom row is 竜のかわいい七つの子 manga for another of my 2025 Bingo squares.

Plan is to place my last order at the end of January with the last of 本好き light novels, a short manga series I’m interested in, as well as a few other individual short story collections then curb my book buying for the year so I can start saving for a Japan trip.

The 帯

I haven’t heard of that series before, but the covers look really beautiful and interesting!

Ah, I read that in English; I remember liking it! I should re-read it sometime…

That’s the one!
Funny how I haven’t seen that kanji often but as soon as I saw it my mind went - Obi :joy:

That series was actually a recommendation from somewhere but I can’t remember where. maybe my Amazon or CD Japan recs. I’ve heard mixed reviews but since it seems to be a bit otherworldly, I thought it was worth a read and hopefully it will help a bit with Kanji recognition with there being no furigana.

I think it popped up in CD Japan when I was randomly searching for dragon stuff and it seemed pretty cool so added it to the list and my 2025 Bingo TBR pile :joy:

Those covers look so beautiful. Style reminds me of Yurihime 2024 covers

It was one of the things that drew me to them when I first saw them. The guidebook has the images from the covers and I like the ethereal feeling they have.

Here is my Flowers collection I have so far. There’s a few things I am still missing that I plan on buying later on but its a good start.

Those look really beautiful!! I’ve been debating whether to just buy the Switch version (all 4 games in one), or buy the PC versions separately, since then I get the nice packaging (and I’ll just pray they work on Win 11 - which they probably will)

The physical editions I have are from the Eng version (the eng ones come with the acrylic stands shown in the photo, I don’t think the jp one comes with anything extra) but I recently reread the entire series in jp as a club over on WK and can confirm the digital versions at least work with Win11.

Excited to finally have マリみて complete. I think there’s probly some drama cds I don’t have still, but I’ll let that rest for the time being. きみの色 isn’t completed yet, but the movie was amazing! I’m guessing the other 池田 理代子 series will both be hard - so who knows when I’ll read them. Idk anything about them, I just wanted おにいさまへ :sob:

I got a bunch of books on my recent trip to Japan. It’s all BL stuff.

I was surprised to find that Ikebukuro, despite its reputation as having a lot of BL stuff, is not a good place to buy novels. Animate has loads and loads of manga but the novel section is only a tiny part of the floor and they didn’t seem to have volume 1 of anything. The main Kinokuniya in Shinjuku had the same (small) amount of novels, and was better for finding first volumes. I started to wonder if everyone is reading digitally instead of physicals.

The actually good place for BL novels I came across (accidentally, while looking for a book about 猫のダヤン that I never found) was in Osaka – Junkudo Namba. It’s a mainstream bookstore and located on the 3rd floor of a building which has garden supplies or something on the ground floor, so it doesn’t seem like it would be the place to go for this. They have 1 aisle with BL on both sides, which is less than Animate. But Junkudo gives half of that space to novels, so their selection is 4 to 5 times larger. They also have a good stationery section, with cloth book covers in attractive designs.

The haul

Ah, I recognize a lot of these! By cover, and not by prior reading, unfortunately, but it’s neat to see so many book in one haul I recognize that I didn’t buy. :stuck_out_tongue: I’d be curious to hear your thoughts/read your review once you read these in particular:

The first of my orders arrived! This one from Suruga-ya.

Top row is 女鍛冶師はお人好しギルドに拾われました, both light novels. I think there is a manga for this too but I wanted the novels i stead (more reading material = more practice).
Bottom row is book 3 of おまわりさん series and an insert titled 謎めきの鳩郵便 that came with it (the other 3 books are coming from CD Japan later this week.

Books 1-16 (minus book 8 that is coming from CD Japan later this month or next) of とんでもスキルで異世界放浪メシ.

I doubt I will run out of content to read for some time. At this rate I’ll need a room just for books though some floor to ceiling bookcases might be a great idea :joy:

2 more orders arrived, these from CD Japan:

^
The Summer Hikaru died, all 6 of the manga and the special edition Light novel (which came with a booklet with a mini comic, short story, afterword by 2 different people).

^
Series 1 of 水属性の魔法使い light novels

^
Series 2 of 水属性の魔法使い light novels

^
Top 3 are the rest of おまわりさんと招き猫 series
Left in the middle row is Flowers for Algernon, recommended by my Tutor (it is a translation but it will be difficult to read as it starts with mostly Hiragana and the language gets more difficult, progressing to more kanji as the book goes on, it’s bound in to the story why it is the case). Middle and right on the middle row is 竜愛づる騎士の誓約
Bottom row left to right: 白なの鳥と黒の鳥 (short stories), レキシントンの幽霊, What you are looking for is in the library

^
The complete guide for ダンジョン飯

Then the rest are 本t好き arcs 2-5,

side stories, short stories of her friends and the start of a [spin off series] (本好きの下剋上 ハンネローレの貴族院五年生 | L30) if I’m reading that correctly.

Have you read it in English? (I’ve read the short story but not the novel version.) I’m guessing the early sections will have not just mainly hiragana but also spelling/grammar errors.

No, I’ve not. But my tutor did advise me in advance of the gist of the story and “progression” of the vocabulary, grammar etc. So I am prepared for it being an intensive read with a lot of possible translation errors on my part.
The premise sounded interesting and it is a book I have on my list of English books to pick up as well (to check understanding alongside asking my tutor as she knows the story quite well in Japanese).
