You actually can if you use the ‘add to lists’ option on the status widget on the book page. I just didn’t configure the creation page search for it right now… probably will soon.
Fair enough! Yeah I think that’s a rasonable ‘advanced option’ to allow.
Also duly noted on all your other comments, much appreciated
I’ll do some CSV dumps and do a maintenance to my library, as stuff stored in the Comments can now be done with Tags and Lists.
I kinda wish there was bulk actions but I understand that’s a very niche need
Also since I’ve been binging reading, I have to comment adding books as read is a bit less satisfying in Natively, specially if you want to input time.
I need to add the book to reading, go the dashboard, open the update, click I’m finished, then click the add time, then add the time, and then click save. That’s a bit too many clicks for just one action IMHO.
Edit: @eefara FYI those notes fields do render markdown, so you can put the Japanese description in a details block to hide it if you want… and then include the english.
One last thing; not super important, but I’ll note it down here so brandon can look at it later: I added some custom tags to the LN list, but they don’t show up on the list overview page for some reason. Could be a caching issue on my end, maybe?
I think the forums link should not be hidden inside the dropdown, if possible. As Nielsen Norman puts it: “Keep global navigation options out of dropdown menus on desktop.Burying your site’s top-level categories can be detrimental to user success on any site.”
Specifically, I think that having it at the top level leads to a bigger chance of new users realizing that a forum even exists. I think the Forum is a more important navigation item than lists even. But of course, it is your choice anyway
You can make a case for both. However, I do want to promote lists for the time being. I do agree that top level navigation is very important of course! There’s only so much room though.
Also, Forums are very prominent on your dashboard too
But your feedback is appreciated! I’ll take it into consideration.
@brandon Can we select series instead of individual books for these custom lists? I don’t see a way right now, but I think this would be a useful option.
Yes I thought about this. There’s nothing in the data model that prevents us from allowing that, there were just a few awkward things we’d have to handle and I didn’t want to right now:
search would need special handling to include series
can’t add them from series page as there’s not a widget for it yet
should we include first volume review if available?
Nothing really hard to solve, but additional complication
I’ve sometimes thought it would be cool to have series reviews. My first volume reviews often end up being partial series reviews. It also sorta fits with being able to Favorite and now List series. Otoh maybe it’s redundant and not really beneficial?
