The Digital library of Korea is an online library of Korean books, that anyone can make an account for, without requiring a Korean phone number. It’s also fully free.
It functions similarly to other digital libraries where you can borrow a book directly if no one else is already borrowing this book, or you can reserve it for a later date. However, the way the catalogue is set up is quite clunky, so actually finding books on there that I’m interested in was quite hard. I resorted to looking up the books that were in my Natively wish list one by one.
So it would be great if it could be added as a book provider for Korean books. That way, we’d be able to filter for the digital library of Korea on Natively, also filter by level, etc, and then we’d be able to find those books directly on the library’s website.
Bibliothecary was remarking the other day that we don’t have many books marked as free in Korean, and that would be solving that issue as well! It would be even better if, just like with bookwalker where we get a “temporarily free” text on the book’s page, we could get a “no one has this on hold right now” thing that we could filter for.
(Edit: you will notice that the little tag with the provider which appears when you add the url overhangs the url text.. i know will update that css at somepoint, ignor for now)
Ahh no sorry, my bad, I should’ve been more clear. It has the format above. It is part of the digital library of Korea but it’s also a Yes24 thing? Somehow, idk how that works
Registration: Accessible internationally, no regional restrictions.
Access: Books can only be read using the digital library’s viewer or through the Yes24 ebook viewer app.
Software: The free viewer for desktop can be downloaded from the Yes24 website and it is available from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
How it works: You can borrow books for one week at a time, with the possibility of extending your holds. If someone is already borrowing a book you’re interested in, you can also reserve it.
