The book search within list edit is too specific.
When I tried searching for 小説 ブラック・ジャック using ブラック・ジャック it didn’t find it, only when I used the entire phrase.
Just in case I tried using the regular search and it does find it through there.
Not sure if it’s possible to do something about this one but I also noticed for 神の手をもつふたりブラックジャック×氷川魅和子~ダ-ク・エンジェル外伝~: 手塚治虫「ブラック・ジャック」40周年アニバ-サリ-! (The title added through the Amazon link) That I couldn’t find it using the title from bookwalker 神の手をもつふたり~ダーク・エンジェル外伝~ブラック・ジャック×氷川魅和子 (which, to be fair, has different characters in the middle and it doesn’t find it in normal search either)
It seems like the search in lists searches only from the start of the title, and not within the title. So “ブラック・ジャック” won’t turn up that book, but “小説 ブラック” will
For any book that has different ways of writing the title, you can click the “Have feedback?” button on the book page and suggest the alternate title be added. I believe the alternate titles are also considered in the list search, but probably with the same limitation of trying to match only the start of the title.
it’s certainly a solution especially for the 神の手をもつふたりブラックジャック, not sure why I didn’t consider doing that
though it might not be the best practice to do so every time since if someone wants to look up a title through the second word of the name or something like that that’s not exactly an alternate title(?) (or is it? I’m thinking of things like looking up 振りかぶって to find おおきく振りかぶって, so maybe it’s something that doesn’t need a solution in the first place? since at that point they might pre-look it up? will do some thinking simply because I can )
I think it’s still an issue that list search doesn’t work the same way as the main search does. It’s not explained anywhere or anything that you need to start from the start of the title when searching, so probably most users would assume the list search is broken if it’s not turning up the same results as the site search.
I usually just go to a work’s page and add it to lists from there, instead of bothering with the search function in the list maker
