Meaning you would be embarrassed, or you wouldn’t?
I would not be embarrassed (but I decided to warn anyway).
葬送のフリーレン 1 features some retired heroes, two will even die, though of old age.
This is L29 but it does feature a retired character as a protagonist for one of the sections: お探し物は図書室まで | L29
I read it this year and it definitely fits with the heartwarming feeling I expect from this author!
It’s cool, I’m unlikely to read it at work and no one else in the house reads Japanese so all good.
I have this already on the list but it could be easier for me to move this for that prompt and use something else for a non human protag.
This is on my list to get, might be a little high atm but I might be able to manage it later in the year so will keep it in mind.
For this case I have saved up some of the free covers I got when I bought my last 狼と香辛料 books, book-off didn’t have them all:
you can easily make a paper cover out of any paper that is at least somewhat bigger than the book you are trying to cover… I like to use up wrapping paper for this.
explanation on how to fold it, if someone needs it:
I unfortunately don’t have any of those because my imported books don’t come with them
However, I have always been wanting to make an adjustable (waterproof) book cover so might actually need to get my crafting stuff out and get making it would give me an excuse.
Not sure if CD Japan or another seller you get books from already might have cloth covers, but it could be worth looking into. I am lousy with them because a few friends who lived in Japan used to get them for me as gifts. They’re great for hiding protecting your covers on commutes and/or in your bag, and the nicer ones tend to have built in bookmarks.
That’s a shout. I did find a clear plastic cover for my Hobo techo on Amazon so if not, I can always try there if I know what to look for.
Or I have fabric and thin leather sheets that I could use if need be and can add a built in bookmark etc if needed. I have had a design for one for a while but just haven’t made it yet.
Thank you for posting this, I didn’t see it earlier as my phone wasn’t loading images so it’s just appeared now I’m back on Home Broadband. I like how they advise the size of paper to use as well. That’s cool
original request
I have planned on doing a small CDJapan order, so I am thinking about adding some Manga to not only ship one small book.
Anyone has any ideas for a 2-3 volume manga series?
Some things I enjoyed recently:
- ひらやすみ
- 台所のドラゴン
- 3月のライオン
- 極主夫道
- 気になってる人が男じゃなかった
- しまなみ誰そ彼
- ハチミツとクローバー
- 俺物語!!
Ideally, it wouldn’t be too hard (as in, vocab should be either pretty basic or repeat itself a lot, I don’t need Furigana in it though) as I don’t enjoy too many lookups when reading physical Manga. I imagine something more chill/slice of life. I don’t have any restrictions when it comes to genre, though.
Hiding my original post because after some digging I found something!
In case someone else looks for something similar, I went for 終わりのち、アサナギ暮らし。 | L22 !
Guess it’s too late, but I would have suggested 徒然日和 | L21, which is a three volume yuri series with a book club starting soon.
Other options are:
- 君に紡ぐ傍白 | L21 (three volume college yuri series, full color)
- もし、恋が見えたなら | L18 (also yuri, but mostly for its neat gimmick of having some pink instead of just black and white)
- にじいろフォトグラフ | L20 (don’t really remember well, but I think it was just a cute family story)
I actually haven’t read that many 2-3 volume series.
Cdjapan doesn’t have them in stock anyway (and never does anytime I’ve checked). Though I am getting a set via their proxy service… So hopefully someone will want my vol 1
That’s a shame. I have the physicals from years ago.
It’s so hard with yuri manga in general. You never know how long something’s gonna stay in print for… or maybe this is specifically a Yurihime / 一迅社 problem? I feel like I’ve probably run into it otherwise, but can’t think of what
I rarely buy yuri hime and have run into out of print issues plenty, so it’s not just them. But I do buy mostly less popular manga in general, so…
It’s not unlikely that I’ll find myself in the same situation again sometime in the future, so thanks a lot, I’ll keep those in mind!
This is also no longer available, sadly (tho Suruga-ya has vol 1 & 3)
I got it into my head that I want to read 幼女戦記 within the next year, but I’d like to do it in a way that doesn’t result in me regretting my life choices
So, in an attempt to avoid having to add 1000 words to Anki within the first volume, I’d like to build up to it by reading progressively more difficult books with similar (e.g. military, war, political) vocabulary. I’d be thankful for any recommendations for books that might have some overlap with 幼女戦記 in terms of vocabulary and have audiobooks (since I prefer reading along with the audiobook). The easier the better.
Possible candidates I’ve found so far:
