The Seeking Recommendations Thread 📚

Which 三毛猫 book would you recommend?

Btw I noticed that there are two versions of many of the books in this series. 角川文庫 and 光文社文庫. Do you know what’s the difference between them?

I’ve only read the first one of the series, so no particular recommendations. I liked the first one and it was entertaining, but I suspect there’s not a lot of character development in later volumes so order probably won’t matter.
I read this version which would be Kadokawa

So far as I know 光文社文庫 is another regular publisher (ie adult, not a children’s version republisher) so it might just be the case like with 理由 where the rights were bought by one of them at some point. We noticed a few very minor differences in 理由 (missing or extra sentences) so far in the club, but not enough to recommend one over the other.

I see. So I guess it will be more of choosing based on the cover and ebook prices then  Thank you so much for explaining

Moving this over from the Tag thread because my question has nothing to do with it: What are your favourite slime mangas?

For me it’s:

In the “protagonist” category: Maybe predictably… 「マンガ」 転生したらスライムだった件 | L24. Action & battles? Check. Statecraft & economics? Check. A ton of fantasy races working together? Check. Not every single part of it is good, but the great parts easily overshadow those that aren’t. (I watched the anime though, I haven’t read the manga.)

In the “working with slimes” category: 神達に拾われた男 | L24??. The usual isekai setup - middle-aged business man is reborn into a fantasy world while being blessed by the gods - only to spend 3 years alone in a forest researching slimes. This one wins for me because it has some slime uses that I had never seen before, like e.g.

very slightly spoilery picture

and has a nice balance between “slow life”, action and business. Absolutely recommended!

In the “enemy” category: RTA走者はゲーム世界から帰れない | L24??, featuring ラスピ, a slime that is one of the generals of the demon lord, which I enjoyed as refreshingly different to the usual “slime as newbie fodder enemy”. To be honest though, the manga itself is only so-so and I’m not sure I’d recommend it, but I don’t know any other manga with “big bad” slimes.

Yes, the big plus of the series is that Rimuru does usually not kill off their enemies, even if they could, but - same as in Dragonball - that they make them their friends / partners.

Well, they aren’t manga, but they have received a manga adaptation (since you mentioned 「マンガ」 転生したらスライムだった件 | L24, I assume that’s fine, although I can’t promise anything regarding the quality)

Thanks for the slime manga recommendations

Personally, I’m team slimes are cute and need to be protected, so here are a few of my picks, that I havent seen so far here:

とんでもスキルで異世界放浪メシ | 22
Campfire cooking in another world got the cutest slime of them all. The MC picks up a baby slime who will become a strong companion. The anime is worth a watch cause the voice acting for the slime is top notch!

ぷにるはかわいいスライム | 22
Puniro is a kawaii slime features an antromorphic slime, that got accidentally created by an elementary school boy. They become friends and grow up together.

私の推しは悪役令嬢 | 29
One of my favorite genre are villainess isekais and this one features a slime as the pet/child of the MC, so of course it was a must watch for me. In the anime the slime doesnt play a big role, but I have high hopes it will become more important in the manga.

スライム聖女 | 24?
Well, as I said, next to slimes, villainesses are my favorite thing. In this manga a slime wants to become human so it takes over a recently deceased body, only to find out it has become a super important saint who had been the worst villainess and is hated by everyone.

These are just a few more recommendations, but there are many more out there

I read the original LN, and completely forgot about it until you mentioned it  But it does indeed play a role past the end of the anime.
(I haven’t watched the anime, I’m just going by episode description)

I can‘t even remember that there was a slime! :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Edit: Oops, ah, yes, now that you mention it…

This series 最弱テイマーはゴミ拾いの旅を始めました S1 has a cute slime with a bigger role. The original is one of the easier light novels 最弱テイマーはゴミ拾いの旅を始めました. There is also a manga adaption.

Yeah, スイ is definitely very cute!

I’ve begun reading this (in English) and I love it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Btw, re: villainess isekais - if you’re not watching this season’s Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan yet I think you might want to try it! I didn’t expect to like it so much. Kenzaburou just brings so much wholesome dad energy over to this otome isekai world  (Also the ED is fire.)

Thanks! It’s already on my watchlist, but I’ll wait till the season is over so I can binge it  And thatnks for the link, the ED is indeed pure gold

There also an Anime, I started watching it, but in the first episode it looked like the slime would die. Obviously it wont, since it’s prominently on the cover, but it made me too sad. I decided to read the manga later on, but hadnt even thought about the light novel. But now that I see how easy it has been rated, this will be my first Light Novel! Thanks a lot!
