The Seeking Recommendations Thread 📚

https://learnnatively.com/book/a572076a7c/ is the series that immediately comes to mind for me. Centered around two members of the aquarium club. Based on actual city & school - Nagahama, Ehime.

あの頃の青い星1 | L21 has some by the ocean moments iirc. It’s been a while since I read it tho

Enjoying 凜として弓を引く | L27 so far, but that’s a novel

Perhaps
異世界の沙汰は社畜次第 | L30 ? It’s an isekai BL where the titular 社畜 isn’t naturally compatible with the world’s magic, so he has to be extremely careful about what he eats and overexerting himself, else he gets sick and could potentially die.

マグメル深海水族館 | L24 comes to mind for this. It’s an underwater aquarium!

There’s gotta be a million manga that fit the bill, but the closest I can find on my own library is 贋 まがいもの | L26 , which focuses on a man forging art in 1930’s Japan.

A manga series about a calligrapher and his fight to find his own style.

Another traditional crafts option:

Have to second マグメル深海水族館. I haven’t read it, but it’s been on my radar for ages as something that looks really cool.

Does somebody know of a novel featuring IT and work related vocabulary with relationship at work? Would love to have a BL

I love that series. It is fast paced and the characters are cute.

The main character is definitely fragile and sick, but really stubborn (so might come across as strong).

The writing style and Japanese vocabulary make it challenging for me sometimes so I am currently pausing it.

(Also it reminds me of https://learnnatively.com/series/b356b9dd4b/ which I like)

Lmao, the first thing that came to mind was a nonfiction book @cat mentioned reading some time back teaching the reader SQL via some company employee getting hot for her senpai or something.

 Now I am interested in how this reads like

I once read some pages of the Japanese version of the Python manual, but nothing important, so it was quite boring, but grammatically it was not really difficult, around L26 I‘d guess.

It was… Not good. But I was quite entertained. It’s also really short (less than 100 pages)

Thanks! <3 Entertaining sounds good. I will have look. Thanks for being honest!

As @mic mentioned I also tried with a manual before, but it was too boring (If I
remember correctly I tried react JS)

I’d suggest マンガでわかるデ-タベ-ス (which is not ecchi)… no eBook unfortunately, but there’s an English version here… maybe I’ll read through that this week at work. I use SQL just infrequently enough that this would be useful

I guess I should try doing this sorta thing, now that they’d be a comfortable level for me  Then at least I’d still technically be doing “work”, while reading at work (something I have not been able to do so much of lately)

I’ve gotten plenty to test out and choose from. I appreciate it guys!

Hmmmmm I said no time for novels but this one is tempting enough to try and squeeze it in. If I can’t manage it now, I’ll definitely read it in 2026. Thank you!

I already read the first volume but this does fit perfectly! I loved what I’ve read so far.

I’ll check out the other two. The art in 贋 まがいもの | L26 appeals to me in particular. Thanks!

Oooh, an art I hadn’t considered. Added to the wishlist, thanks!

Oh I’ve seen some of the anime for this manga! It would be a nostalgic read. Thanks!

Honestly most of what you’re describing sounds like Another. I just went through your list of books you’ve read and it doesn’t seem like you’ve read it. After reading what you described here I was convinced that you’ve definitely read it

Yes, the first two ones are the slow burn fight against a supernatural evil, the third one has the “secluded village/island with a dark secret“, though I wouldn’t recommend to read it alone without the knowledge of the other two.
