No no, I read 放課後保健室, not ベルサイユのバラ. I remember one of my friends back in university spending a solid hour just talking about it once, but I didn’t really look into it at the time and then forgot.
Well, I should really have a look then!
Yes.
That… less. I guess it depends on how it is handled (and how I personally feel at the time)
I’ll probably avoid that one then, but I’ll check 美しいこと
Okay, speaking of highly depressing, I just checked the trigger warnings on this one and yikes. I’ll need a comfort blanket and hot cocoa for that one.
木原成瀬 is called BLの師匠 in the Japanese BL community and for a really good reason - a ton of her books are super engrossing and creative but a lot of them are also distressing and not really the feel good fluff you’d expect with BL. The heavier books are handled well since she’s a fantastic writer, but she definitely pushes her readers (sometimes even to the edge ). If you’re ever in the mood for more ”serious” BL or randomly come across some of her books, check them out! 美しいこと is a relatively safe place to start haha
Wait a minute, 木原 音瀬 wrote 吸血鬼と愉快な仲間たち | L30???? I think I understand better now what you mean when you talk about darker BL. I’ve read a bit of the manga adaption of this one and it definitely doesn’t pull its punches in certain aspects.
Might want to fix that third kanji; took me a minute before I realized it was a typo.
Edit: lol. Was checking on the latest for the manga adaption of 吸血鬼と愉快な仲間たち since I had heard it was recently picked back up, and was shocked to see volume 5 had released without me realizing. Checked the release date and it was today.
I have read 桜蘭高校ホスト部 up to where it was published in France before coming to Japan, but never finished it. Reading it in Japanese would be nice.
I don’t know 花ざかりの君たちへ, but since you are putting it up with the rest, it sounds very promising.
Thank you (and the others too)! That’s quite a lot of recs!
Alright, that does sound promising. If 美しいこと is on the safe side, that will help me gauge how I feel about the rest too.
oh
in that case
めんどくさがり男子が朝起きたら女の子になっていた話
山田くんと7人の魔女
technically Ranma 1/2 enters this definition too lol
don’t know if this counts since it’s cross dressing and not right out changing gender but Jellyfish Princess is awesome and it has a manga, anime AND live drama, all cute
I didn’t know them, but they were recommended by @bibliothecary as well. I got curious and tried to hunt them down in my native language. The second one never got published in France, apparently (at least, I really cannot find any trace of it). The first did get publish and around the right time too, but I guess I missed it.
(I wasn’t that much into manga until coming to Japan, so while I read a decent amount of stuff, it’s very partial to what others were reading around me)
I thought of it too, but this one I actually read back in the days.
Checking the cover, I can see why it’s not in here.
I may or may not have already added some stuff to my Booklive shopping cart by following the 女装(BL) tag, but sure why not.
Edit: that… feels more like TL than BL, honestly. Not quite sure why it’s in the BL category.
Edit edit: ah, never mind.
I can only think of two where the characters are mains and not side characters, and one I don’t recommend cause it’s trash (Dear Friends | L25) and one I can’t recommend really because I haven’t read it (死命 - not on Natively).
The latter I honestly have no idea how much it goes into the process of dealing with the illness tbh, this is the plot:
I found something that fits this to a T!!!
It’s not a full blown manga but it’s a bunch of short tweet comics about a couple that kinda shifts between boy and girl
Edit:
I deeply apologize as well as happily stand corrected
ぜんぶきみの性 is a full blown manga
