Unable to quote

I’m unsure how to post this in the right section but I’m unable to select text within posts to quote or reply to.

I can only reply by clicking the reply arrow in the bottom of a post and not by quoting any text.

On mobile (iPhone 15), iOS 26.5.2, using Safari web browser. Will check my iPad when I get home.

Can someone teach me how to raise this in the right section please? Thanks in advance

Selecting text, should bring two menus, one is the native from iOS, the other one is the discourse one, that allows you to do Quotes/Edits.

Yeah, at the moment I get neither showing up on the forums here when I try to select text within a post, but can get the iOS (copy, paste etc) showing on my own post when under edit, or can get them both showing on other forums, in messages and on other websites.

I have double checked the version, and we are on the same.

So I’m guessing it’s a cache issue or something similar?

Selecting the text and pressing the reply button with the text selected, should also do a quote. Have you tried that way?

I can’t select the text within posts, it doesn’t let me.

If it could be a cashe issue, will clearing my history and old tabs maybe fix it?

Not sure, did you try a private tab and see if it still persists?

It’s weird that it doesn’t let you select at all.

You could also try using Firefox until you figure out what’s going on with Safari, if the cache or private tab don’t do the trick.

Something similar came up in another thread last week, but if you don’t get the native OS cut and paste options either it’s probably something different.

Product Updates & Casual Natively Discussion - #3662 by Megumin is what this reminded me of – a discourse bug, where the forum quote/reply menu stops appearing.

If it is the same thing, there’s a workaround: hold on a “like” button until the popup of icons appears, then dismiss it: supposedly this clears the state that’s suppressing the quote menu.

I do notice a few comments at the bottom of the linked thread on the discourse forums about a recent ios change, so possibly that’s what you’re running into.

AFAIK it was an Android issue, but I guess it’s worth a try.

The user reported it as an Android issue, but assuming the AI analysis later in the thread is correct, it doesn’t sound like the bug is Android specific, so it ought to also apply on iOS. Also, reading the analysis more closely, the reaction widget suppresses all selection behaviour, not just the quote menu. (I just tested that on Android: if you start a “scroll page” touch gesture with your finger on the like button then this disables both the quote menu and native OS select. Manually bringing up and dismissing a like button reaction menu gets it out of the broken state again.) So this does feel to me like it’s probably the same bug.

It’s working now after clearing cashe and history. Sorry, I’ve never come across that before but it seems to be fixed now.

Thanks
