Visual Novel Reading Club | Now Reading メモリーズオフ

I’m sorry but I am busy with other things in my life I want to step down from running this club.

No worries. Hope all is well. You should make the OP a wiki, so that whoever does take over can edit it & update the title and stuff.

In a worst case, I can probly take over… but I’m already running 2 other book clubs here, and would prefer if someone else does

Actually for once good things happened in my life. But still lots of things pilled up, which I need to slowly take care of.

@brandon Could you please turn the first post into a wiki?

Sadly only regulars can turn their own posts into a wiki. Admin can turn other people’s posts into a wiki, but the only admin we have hasn’t been around for a while…

I would be happy to run the club - if there are still some VN readers here? The SeaBed club feels a little lonely…

I’ve been trying to read one (and I’ve started a few with the club) but I’ve struggled to commit before… I’d like to join one at some point, esp an easy one that is on the Switch

I might join, depending on the difficulty level and if there’s voice acting.

I’m already in the middle of a VN that I really should continue reading at some point (instead of reading books instead), and have another VN queued up that I’ll be “reading” through the, uh… *checks notes* popular medium of watching a vtuber play the game. Don’t judge me. She’s fun to listen to.

So, VN reader and still here! Not interested in a VN club at the moment, but definitely at some point.

No judgement here! What VN and what vtuber? I may try that myself!

Hakui Koyori playing Utawarerumono: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9bBzk-Ebgc&list=PLCxKJRIVDrYEXWmMZbRXddoP162MQ_hDW&index=1

I’ve played Utawarerumono! In English, though. I quite liked the balance of SRPG and visual novel. I’ve mixed feelings about the story, though. I’ve been undecided on whether I want to play the sequels (I think the whole series is on switch now).

I’ve also been interested in Digimon Survive as it looks pretty and seems to have a similar SRPG VN Mix. I’m just not very familiar with the monster catching genre.

I think the VN I’m most interested in right now is Seabed, as I have heard good things about it. Marifly seems to like it. I just have other games I want to play at the moment.

I’m currently playing 13 sentinels (which is almost a VN) in Japanese. About half way in and it’s great so far. There is a wanikani thread for the game.

Sorry…

I will probably participate in a VN club, depending on what gets voted. Hard to say 100%, but I liked reading Marco & the Galaxy Dragon with everyone (tho I dropped halfway, cuz I didn’t enjoy the VN itself )

This can be really productive… It’s not really different than having a fully voiced game. Plus you’re getting the additional comprehension practice from whatever comments they’re making

I’ve done this with flowers a bit. One thing that was nice was seeing the the person streaming also had to look up various words and kanji

I’ve played a bit of that before, forget why I didn’t finish… Probably bc I didn’t have an easy easy way to look things up at the time

Hmmm. Maybe this is the way to go if we start up the VN club again…

My biggest friction is that I always have to remember how to work the text hooker and that I don’t like to spend a long time at my computer (but I’m perfectly fine doing it in front of the TV :joy:). I tried Marco on my laptop on the couch when the group read it and it was fine, but it did feel like, why am I not just watching this on TV…

This is why I use Yomininja, when it doesn’t make the VN laggy (may be a “my crappy laptop” issue)… Tho the upside with text hooker is you can make anki/jpdb decks in advance, if you’re willing to just fast forward through a huge portion

That’s what HDMI cables (or I guess casting devices?) are for. TV == really big monitor (well not entirely, but for VN purposes, close enough). My laptop has a broken screen, so I’m always using it with tv/monitor. Works best with wireless keyboard & mouse

My old laptop (recently replaced) stopped being able to cast to the tv (and I couldn’t figure out why) and the audio didn’t work over HDMI anymore (couldn’t figure out why) AND it had a farty speaker (also couldn’t figure out why… we were in a Zoom call once and it just started being farty in the middle of it). Anyway, a lot of those problems have been solved with a new laptop, so I’d probably be fine now… but I’m still lazy with the text hooker.

Hmmm…. This would be easier to organize too. One week per video, easy to know where everyone is in the VN. We could do «pure» VN reading and/or a mix of video and reading and/or pure video for those who want that.

Let’s get some nominations for VNs with vtuber videos. Please follow the normal format for nominations, but also include a comment and a link about what vtuber we could follow for that VN.

If you can find vtuber videos for current nominations too, that would be great!
