After Marco rates her curry 55 points and Arco says that that’s actually a pretty good score coming from Marco, Ruri says "そういうのいいですよ！！. It’s translated as “Such a harsh critic!!!” which fits, but… what does the Japanese actually mean there?
Also I just realized that earlier when I answered @Biblio re: story confirmations that Marco says that her mothers’ “head was blown away” I was wrong - it’s actually refering to the photo where the part with her mother’s head was torn off. So yeah, she seems pretty sure her mother is still alive!
Yeah, I was unsure about that sentence too. I thought the ”そういうのいいですよ！!” was probably Ruri rejecting Marco’s score because she thinks it’s unfair or unreasonable, even if it is a fairly high score for Marco. Kind of like how people sometimes say “結構です” to reject something. I guess more literally you could think of it as “it would be good if (you don’t give me such a low score).” I think that fits pretty well with the English too.
I actually read it straightforward, like “if that’s how it is, I guess I [actually] did good then”… which fits with the “harsh critic” thing BUT I can’t say that’s a reliable reading. Tho it does seem
I think that’s the general consensus, we just all came up with different interpretations on how that would translate to English. But it’s definitely a “Let’s be done with this subject and move on.” kinda remark.
It might just be me being inexperienced with the language or misjudging Ruri’s character, but I really can’t see her say anything dismissive. I realize I’m in the minority here though
Seeing this thread again, I think this is an example of ボケ and ツッコミ. Arco (and Marco too tbh) is a perpetual ボケキャラ, and Ruri is ツッコんでいる here because she’s fired up about the low score and doesn’t want to hear Arco’s joking anymore.
I didn’t see anyone replying for that one so here’s an explanation: In Japan, the school year starts in April, there is a summer break but it’s the end of the year. So to not completely forget about school, usually kids have to keep a diary everyday during the summer and write down what they have done. This is what the reference is about, it’s a bit funny that she will do like a normal Japanese kid, write her diary during the summer, but instead of “I went to grandma” it will be “I destroyed a planet”
