Even if you donāt read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post your thoughts.
The google sheets is here to help you with vocab, grammar and anything else you might need. Feel free to add to it!
And we are finished! A few final twists - I particularly liked that Karakawe had slipped a vial to Santos before he died. Poor guy didnāt have a great story, itās good he achieved something. And Timothy Bruce had the incriminating photos too, looks like justice may be served on the bad guys.
I would liked to have known if Alexā mother survives. Perhaps that one is saved for the bigger story arc.
Iām wasnāt sure I saw much future for Aguila and Jaguar together. āIāll write you!ā - the last line of many doomed relationships? But maybe somehow she will make it to the Himalayas for book 2? Then I saw on Natively the series is called Memorias del Ćguila y del Jaguar - so I guess she will be back!
I enjoyed the book, it was quite different to what I have read in the past, went in unexpected directions, and I liked the way the story concluded.
Iāve ordered volumes 2 and 3 - partly to complete the lovely hardback set, and partly as Iām interested to read the next part of the story.
Thanks @HopeWaterfall for setting up this bookclub. Weāve not seen you the last few weeks and I hope you are well.
This is the first Spanish book I read since schoolā¦ And thatās a long time ago! More than 10 years. I hadnāt been particularly motivated for Spanish in school after the first 2 years and quit the class in year 4 of learning, and havenāt had much success getting back into it again after school either, although I tried multiple times.
In fact, this might be the first book I read that wasnāt somehow geared towards learners Iām some way. Iām pretty sure the books we read in class were graded readers.
Iām talking too much. Anyway, this has been a great achievement for me! Iām very glad this club formed when it did and I had a schedule to fall back on. I very well might not have managed on my own!
As for the book itselfā¦ Well, I have some gripes. Haha. The descriptions are very vivid, and colorful. I can see why Isabel Allende has the reputation she does. But while the dialogue was also very well written, for me the ratio was off. I would have enjoyed more dialogue showing whatās what and less lengthy descriptions of whatās happening.
That said, I still enjoyed it enough that I donāt regret getting the set of 3 books. I do plan to read the rest of the series in the future, and Iām looking forward to hopefully reading another book with the club soon!
(And, like Micki, I did check that Nadia will show up again. I read the blurb for volume 2 right after finishes the first. )
Same! And while we read ārealā books in class, I can confidently say I understood none of them. So Iām counting this as my first real Spanish book as well. Good job to everyone!
