I will generally copy this information over thread to thread each week for ease of finding - you can always expect the schedule at the top of any weekly thread
Law and Order
Any reveals, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
Questions on vocab, grammar, nuance, and the like are both welcome and encouraged. If you’re not sure if it’s a spoiler, assume it is and use one of the above options to hide the text.
You are encouraged to speculate and guess wildly
Be kind about other peoples’ wild guesses
Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.
To gauge participation - a poll!
Are you reading week 4 of 眼球堂の殺人?
Yes, I’m planning to read along/am reading along this week
I’m going read this by the end of the week because I am reading 小学館ジュニア文庫 女優猫あなご | L21 and it’s getting interesting now. Hope to be able to finish by Friday so that I can continue 眼球堂の殺人 this weekend.
Oooh… something happened ! I’m glad this is picking up, after three weeks of… a lot of exposition, but not much action !
And the schematics of the murder scene was kinda cute, in a slightly horrifying way… and yes, the window does open from the ground up, which has to be the least weird thing about this place… but my heart sank when I saw how precisely and carefully all distances were written. I have the feeling that I should be taking notes, and it will all turn around some obscure mathematical formula/physical phenomenon which will explain how the body ended up there.
Also, even though that was last week, or maybe the week before, am I the only one thinking that it’s strange that Hirakawa has never heard of his boss’ son ? and maybe he is the son, but here incognito ?
Also, I really liked the beginning of the chapter, and the typographical play with the repeating sentences. I might be mistaken, but I think it’s somewhat referencing ドグラマグラ ?
I definitely think the butler is not just an innocent bystander hired on for this weird act. The absence of the son has been very interesting to me as well.
Never read it so no idea, but it’s a very famous book (and adapted to a movie at least once) so wouldn’t surprise me
I want to know if this body is fake Like it’ll start rotting soon enough if it’s real, so I guess they’ll have their answer then. But also I was not at all expecting the architect to die first! What a fun twist. I figured the geniuses would be picked off one by one or something
Yay! I finally completed Week 4 and I’m glad we get some action haha
Don’t open this para below unless you want to see my guess on how the architectdied.
I’m guessing that the white bowl where the pillars are and the hallway were filled with water at night which was why the doors can’t be opened. The architect was pushed by someone (most likely his son) into the water from the window at the edge of the bright hallway that opened from the floor. And when the water resides the architect was pierced at the pencil-top shaped pillar
