I had exactly the same thoughts the first time I read the book (and I found it annoying at the time)
Honestly, my perspective on this only shifted this time around
Honestly, this would explain a whole lot. I’m thinking of some specific Korean isekai webtoons in particular; maybe it’s just the ones I’ve read, but they seem to be more fond of the “reincarnate as a very young child/infant” trope.
It’s good to know I wasn’t the only one! Amazing what a re-read can do. I kind of feel like I need to read 世界から猫が消えたなら | L27 again. I got kind of ranty about it in my review, but I wonder how much of it was that I had really different expectations for what the book was going to be about.
That’s also a common trope in Japanese isekai. And the main character not acting as a kid (despite brain chemistry having no reason to be affected) has been annoying me.
Coming back to this series after reading a lot of isekai (本好き was my second one), I am definitely more appreciative of the style. (And generally, I do think this series is head and shoulders above the pack)
I came to the books from the anime, and I never had the real connection of „there is an adult inside“ but I also thought that Urano was lacking a lot of social development from the glimpses we got, so her acting as she does made sense to me. Also, how your surroundings treat you, effects you. Studies have been done on this. It’s important in child development.
Week 5, done! The candlemaking was interesting. I just started listening along with the audiobook, since I’ve been doing that with another series I own physically lately, and it’s really nice! I am getting a little tired of the “Myne tries and fails to help” shtick though.
Traveling for work this week and read both chapters on the plane.
I got a good laugh out of Myne stressing about not knowing how a 5 year old should act. She never seems this concerned with her family!
Well, 3 months later I indeed picked it up again, and having the threads had been nice. I’m only reading along to the audiobook this time around, and reading extensively (minimally stopping to look things up). So it’s nice to see if I missed any small details via the discussions here.
