Nyango the walking Felyne Kitchen. He can produce water for washing, and fire for grilling and all clothes and tools for preparation, and the food he prepares gives you stats
「お前、オーガの心臓を食っただろう?」
「はい……」
Dang. And now the secret is out. I’m really curious how that will go, considering that it seemed like a pretty big deal religion-wise.
There’s a lot of “and now I have to relearn” things in this book, huh? This is the second time, but at least this time he presumably got a lot stronger instead of losing an eye
Also: Seems like the whole heart-eating thing didn’t turn out to be much of a problem with Zeol. Maybe he’s not very religious.
しかも強化の度合いが跳ね上がっていて、下手に動くと体が壊れてしまいそうだ。
Oooh! That’s a pretty big deal though. Wasn’t it mentioned earlier that you can never raise that power?

Well, that was a tonal shift. After fighting that ogre and barely winning I assumed the chapter would end triumphantly, but instead we got another challenge. But at least one with high rewards!
Yeah, I feel like the grind is a strong element of the narrative (at least of this first volume). Which is fine per se, but I have to admit I’m starting to get a bit tired of it in some parts - for example, the fight with the Ogre felt a bit long for me. And now I’ve just started week 13, and feel like just skimming the first few pages of him describing what he’s developing to eventually carry the larger preys.
I do hope we get some variation or more progress soon, perhaps in this upcoming chapter - I don’t expect him to actually leave the village soon, but it would be nice to have a change of scenario (like when they went for Miguel’s entrance exams) or at least some interaction with new characters.
I love how Nyango kept completely quiet about his ability to basically use all elements now, and chose to finally show it off… not with his flashy fire/wind combo, but in the form of a spontaneous horse shower.
Also, imagine you’re driving past them. A big sunshade cloth is hanging in the air, seemingly not supported by anything, while water rains down out of thin air.
While I understand that Nyango will keep getting underestimated by people who meet him for the first time, and some will look down on him for that - I wonder how that will develop in the future? He won’t be able to change being a cat-person or being small, and while he might be able to deal with those people easily, it would probably get exhausting sooner or later.
Planning to read some of this this weekend! Had a life disruption and all my book clubs kind of fell by the wayside for a bit I wonder if Nyango has started his adventure yet…
I thought I had written my thoughts on week 13, but guess they stayed only on my mind…
Week 13
Honestly, I rushed a bit through the part describing his vehicle - I just couldn’t force myself to read that in details (honestly, if it were in english I’d probably find it boring, too). The one thing I’m looking forward to is the trip to the village once more. I hope they flesh it out a bit more this time and we get introduced to new characters, or at least to new situations/experiences for Nyango. But it does seem that yet another goblin raid is coming in the near future…
I liked how he had the idea of making an adventuring party or something, but then they immediately shot down that proposal and were like ‘making friends as a kittyboy will be so hard because they won’t respect you!’ So I guess I shouldn’t get my hopes up for an adventuring party in book 1. Probably doesn’t happen until book 17.
Also, he’s going to eat the heart of an orc next, I guess. Time to look forward to atrocities against orc-kind…?
At least Nyango does seem to have some fighting down and can take down some enemies.
This week felt short for me. On one hand, I hope we don’t get the recurring behavior of adventurers trying to bully him for his size. On the other hand, I appreciate how this time there were other senior adventurers who stood up to him, showing their strong values and how not all adventurers think the same. I do feel it’s a pity that some interactions are so short-lived (eg. the one with the lizard person - perhaps he will return in the future?) - I’d like to see some more character development aside from the main cast (Nyango/Zaol. To be honest, I feel that even Zaol doesn’t get that much developed at this point).
Do you think those are the correct speakers? I’m a bit confused here by the last two sentences. I guess the housemaster means that both of their behaviour is troubling him (since he answers Nyango’s “no, I don’t want to cause you trouble”), and then Nyango means that “this is a hard demand for Miguel”?
「バイクに乗ってさすらう冒険者ニャンゴ……格好良いにゃぁ……」
I’m not sure that’s how you’re gonna be described considering that nobody can see the motorcycle
You got the speakers right. But he said “that’s a hard demand, but I’ll do my best in the future… Let’s go Miguel”
Note that the way he says “I’ll do my best” sounds like a very Japanese way to say that it won’t happen.
Trying to picture it in my mind, but it just feels so weird that no one can really… see the things he makes with his magic.
I enjoyed mostly the parts in the city and the banter with Miguel this week, though I do agree the dialogue was a bit harder to follow when Nyango was picking him up.
Huh. It’s a bit surprising to me, considering that he’s usually rather polite to people who haven’t slighted him, and I kind of assume that he thinks that it’s Miguels fault, not his, so I’m not sure I completely follow.
I guess he means that when he’s around Miguel, trouble will probably always be created for the housemaster?
Well, yes, he is very polite, that’s my point. At that level of politeness, you don’t just say “no”, you say “it will be difficult”.
As for why he thinks that, I don’t remember that part, so I would have to check.
I mean, politeness isn’t just using polite language, it’s also about being considerate. And using polite speech to answering “I will, but actually not, sir” to “If it’s about not causing me trouble… could you please think a bit more before you behave like that next time.” is not especially considerate.
That’s what I meant: Usually Nyango seems more considerate to people who haven’t slighted him. And because of that I had (and still have) trouble to picture him saying what he did.
Again, I don’t remember what happened, but it’s not what he says. It’s more a “I would if I could, but it’s outside my control”, so it doesn’t sound inconsiderate. At the very least, it’s more considerate than making promises you can’t keep.
I’ll try to check that part when I have time later today.
Edit: well, there’s no time like the present, so I did just that.
Yes, it is out of his control. He is basically sorry for bothering, but he just won’t promise to back down if Miguel does that kind of stuff again.
I don’t know if you get the notification again, so just in case, I added stuff @Legato
