Law and Order
Any reveals, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
Questions on vocab, grammar, nuance, and the like are both welcome and encouraged. If you’re not sure if it’s a spoiler, assume it is and use one of the above options to hide the text.
You are encouraged to speculate and guess wildly
Be kind about other peoples’ wild guesses
Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.
To gauge participation - a poll!
Are you reading week 8 of 眼球堂の殺人?
Yes, I’m planning to read along/am reading along this week
Finished week 8 and I’m really irritated with Towada’s character. Wished could just get to the point quickly. So I’m disappointed with this week’s read.
Moreover he’s… just not very nice. Of course, it’s the “rude supergenius” trope, but so far, he’s lacking on the supergenius part. And authors always seem to forget that Sherlock Holmes was never mean to Watson, and in fact, quite often praised him. Not much real praise towards 藍子くん so far…
Unfortunately… I’m struggling with finishing Week 9 at the moment. Expect more speechifiying…
Agree with you that Towada didn’t show much supergenius stuff. More like a naggy person.
I’ll read Week 9 next week because I want to read 変な家 to complete the Bingo challenge for Past book club.
Edit: Oops… I just noticed that Kadokawa has a sale until tomorrow night which includes the 三毛猫ホームズ series. So I’m going to read that first for Bingo’s Seeking Recommendations box and if I like the pace or the cat, I can buy more tomorrow. Sorry for digressing.
Ahh yes this! I love the original Sherlock series and at most you could say Sherlock teases Watson a bit, but it’s good natured and not making a dunce of him. The adaptations always make him so cold.
I wasn’t super impressed with Towada or Aiko from the start (I could see what tropes we were playing with sadly…) and my impression hasn’t improved
This has to be one of those books where everything just falls into place super quickly near the end because god the pacing here is so horribly slow so far…here’s hoping when I catch up to week 9 it’s better!
Me too. I like the feeling of accomplishment when I finish a book completely. If I were to skim through, I will count it as partial completion only…
That said, the only reason why I didn’t abandon this book halfway is because of this book club If I were to read it alone, I would have given up a long time ago and it would be one of those book purchase that was “wasted”.
I actually bought the かがみの孤城 novel version on Kindle and then after I watched about 20 mins of the anime and read the story review and knew the ending, I felt that I will not enjoy reading the novel. So, I decided not to read the novel anymore and deleted it from my purchase history from Amazon too because I don’t like having a book that is unread forever in my book list.
I have a question.
Does the way Towada walks indicate he has some disabilities? I’m trying to see if this book could fit into the Bingo challenge for character with disabilities. If not, I’ll put it under the Free box.
