  • Any reveals, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
  • Questions on vocab, grammar, nuance, and the like are both welcome and encouraged. If you’re not sure if it’s a spoiler, assume it is and use one of the above options to hide the text.
  • You are encouraged to speculate and guess wildly
  • Be kind about other peoples’ wild guesses :sparkling_heart:
  • Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.

To gauge participation - a poll!

I’ll start reading this weekend so that I can continue with Week 10 immediately after that. :joy:

Plus I’m enjoying the Calico Holmes series very much now at 26% of the first book. Thank you @cat for the recommendation :heavy_heart_exclamation:

I honestly wish the whole « The Book » theme disappeared from this story. I really, really hope it has some part to play in the resolution, though I very much doubt it will. I’m more or less warming up to the story, and then 十和田 goes on some pseudo-theological tangent that goes nowhere…. TLDR: nothing much happens, one more a lot of tedious discussion….

Haha… I’m tempted to tap on the spoiler but have to stop myself first hahaha :joy:

Sorry, I will be reading Week 9 next week together with Week 10 because I want to finish 三毛猫ホームズの推理 first.

The whole tangent about how math and architecture have to do with each other I totally skimmed. I don’t care. Also just so much nothing for so many pages. I suspect 深浦 is going to die next given he warned about the other two, but honestly don’t know where this book is driving at. It all feels very pointless so far with so little character development as to make me forget who each character is aside from our main two and the butler.

Woo! I managed to catch up on time.

Yeah agree with both of you.
While reading, I was worried that Towada is going to repeat the steps how he debunked the four theories of how the architect got pierced on the pole :joy:. Sigh… so many words but yet so little that actually happened.

I also dislike the mention of The Book. It better have something concrete related to solving these murders rather than some vague repetitions on how great it is by a naggy man.

Btw, are there only 3 of us left who are still reading this book? :grimacing:

I think so. It does turn out that way sometimes  Especially with books like this that end up being relatively difficult without much for the squeeze. FWIW I kind of enjoy books that everyone dislikes because you get some catharsis complaining each week
