I’m reading along!
I’ve fallen behind and I’m going to catch up later
I think we can keep the rest of the book in this thread! I read to the end today and realized the epilogue is only like 4 pages, I was counting the あとがき too. But you can read that if you want!
Chapter 6 thoughts:
I actually liked that this was a longer chapter because it felt less rushed and we got to spend more time discussing the motivation of the characters. I liked that あい didn’t want to manipulate her crush’s feelings, it’s interesting to see a character with morals. I liked the thesis that the angel thing only creates the opportunity, but actually taking a step was up to あい!
Now, as for the twist/explanation… I didn’t understand it at all I reread ヤカタ’s explanation multiple times and I was like, nope, not following what happened here.
Overall, this book was… just okay. The ふしぎ駄菓子屋 series is the same concept but much better executed and more interesting. I don’t mind that I read it though, because I can add the page count to my pages tracking spreadsheet
As for the twist: I didn’t get it either! It was a quite enjoyable chapter, I think I followed the story but I just didn’t quite see what the 縁ジェルちゃん did to affect the relationships. The summary page didn’t help either.
The double length chapter definitely helped the story progress with more rounded characters.
I wasn’t reading this expecting a literary classic, so I have no regrets and the level was good for me. Happy to have another book ticked off for the year!
Finished chapter 6. I didn’t realize this one was a double-length chapter when I was reading it. It was kind of nice that at least one of the stories had a happy ending.
Overall, once I got used to the idea that that twists weren’t going to make a lot of sense, I generally enjoyed the book. Not too hard, a little spoopy, perfect for finishing up in the month of Halloween.
