I also tried listening to 赤ずきん、旅の途中で死体と出会う (series) | L30 but I struggled following the story. I will try again in the new year - it might just have been that I wasn’t paying enough attention. Sometimes my brain is distracted easily. Levelwise it should be doable with audio-only for me.
I think I’ll aim to finish medium and chijin over the 3-day weekend and probably will play catch-up with the BL club once Advent is over. That should free me up a bit more for the various advent readings, so I don’t have to rush and am actually able to enjoy it.
So far the aozora calendar has made me realize that I seem to like Dazai’s writing style.
I finished volume 4, which seems to conclude the series? That being said, there are no afterwords, so I can’t really tell. There was absolutely no 悪役令嬢 whatsoever. It was more like 痛いのは嫌なので防御力に極振りしたいと思います。 (series) | L28 except the world is real™. And that’s where the problems with the plot really come from. Some elements, like boss not being able to get out of their room (but being otherwise alive… well except for the undeads), no consideration for the food chain, or the existence of quest windows make really no sense. One of the major advantage the main characters have is an accessory you get from finishing the tutorial quest, which is super easy. It’s not hidden or anything, it’s just an old lady that makes it for you. But, supposedly, she is not an NPC, so she has her own life. She could make a killing by just selling that item on the regular (or by just using it herself, which she does not).
I think the worst one was (MAJOR SPOILER for volume 4)
the fight against the Goddess of Light. 5 out of 8 characters in the party get their powers from her. Can’t she just… stop granting them? Then they would be basically naked, giving her an easy victory. Even if there’s some kind of magical contract binding her to grand those powers no matter what, surely attacking her would break said contract? The silliest part is that she got defeated by “judgment of the Goddess”, a major power that involves the Goddess of Light (i.e., herself) sending an angel to pass judgement and either fully heal the target or skewering it to instant death with a holy sword. The Goddess was judged by herself, through her own angel guilty, thus resulting in her own instant death. Like… don’t send the angel, maybe? Or just judge yourself innocent (“thanks for the heal!”)? Or… just resist instant death spells in general?
But worse than that, even after she is defeated (and thus literally dead), the characters still have powers. Where do they come from? Raw Light energy?
Anyway, by no mean a great read, but I went through all 4 volumes in a total of 4 days, so whatever.
Btwn 君に届け anime, SAOP 1, and 葬送のフリーレン anime, I’m burnt out on slow/long paced stuff rn. Curious to see how SAO 2 does with pacing. (At least it’s only 326 pages, compared to SAOP 1 at 520 pages… pretty sure that’s the longest SAO book!!)
It’s interesting that 日本の歴史 and ぼっち・ざ・ろく are the same level. I find ぼっち much harder wrt comprehension. Tho I guess 日本の歴史 makes up for it with ancient names and vocab. Otoh it has full furigana.
No idea how long that will take me (especially if I don’t finish before the new year, bc then the LN clubs will start), but we can keep each other posted!
I read one more story from 号泣する準備はできていた | L30??. It was about the main character reminiscing about her first date, how garbage it was, and how she still feels nostalgic about it. Hard relate on most aspect, expect that I don’t think fondly of it (nor ever had) . I just think that, wow, I sure am glad I am an adult and not a silly teenager anymore.
Instead of moving on to the next story, as per usual, I started reading something else. Now, it would have made sense to catch up on the 知人の愛 book club, or the ゆるキャン book club (on the WK forum), or the チュベローズで待ってる book club (since I finally got the book). Or even read the short story from the advent calendar. Or even just a book from my 積読 pile.
But no. I reject those notions and carve my own path.
When picking up チュベローズで待ってる from the library, I noticed in the “just returned” bin 店長がバカすぎて | L30 and remembered that audible has been recommending it to me hard over the past 6 months or so, so I went for it.
I’m only half through the first chapter but I love it so far. Especially the part where one co-worker is bitching about the plot holes in a book she just read (yeah!) and the part where well everyday sexism is displayed by a regular customer and I get to be angry about it with the main character (it’s hard to express; obviously I hate for it to happen, but that part was good).
It’s really not a level 35 book in my opinion. The only reason I can think why it got that rating is maybe due to the medical vocab? But most of those can be easily guessed from kanji or context.
Note: I could also be totally biased because I love medical stuff
