I’m trying to read as many of the series in it as I can, to get my money’s worth. Kinda wanna start buying the physicals… I seem to be amenable with like 3/4 of the magazine.
I’ll add Natively links for the published ones in a bit
Caught up
ささやくように恋を唄う | L21 - my fav. And the latest arc did in fact become an incest arc. I hope that gets wrapped up sooner rather than later, bc I feel so bad for Miki, and Aki just needs a break from drama already
私の百合はお仕事です! | L27 (not this month) - concept cafe where the workers pretend to be students at a fictional all-girls boarding school known as Liebe Girls Academy. Love polygons. MC seems like they could be aromantic? I’m pissed at the author for a recent storyline tho
今日はカノジョがいないから | L22 (not this month)- toxic NTR. It really makes you sympathize with the characters, even the ones you don’t like
彩純ちゃんはレズ風俗に興味があります! | L23 (not this month) - really tasteful ecchi - college woman trying to find her former best friend/crush, who is a sex worker. All she knows is the company this person works for, so she keeps booking, in hopes to finally meet her
Latest 単行本 is vol 5, but chapters are also published as individual volumes
無力聖女と無能王女~魔力ゼロで 召喚された聖女の異世界救国記~ (new) - a rather silly Isekai that involves the characters transferring magic ability via kissing
カナリアは綺羅星の夢をみる (new) - clothing maker and a prostitute. It’s interesting, tho the sex worker character is a little weird rn. I like the MC
あこがれを結んで -one shot, private school was a little hard to follow (maybe that’s just the heat?)
指先に恋を咲かせて (one shot?) - HS girls, nail polish, and 片思い
ロリィタと姉 - Lolita in the fashion sense, not the other sense. Apparently 妹ヤンデレ and 姉ロリータ… appears to be HS & college age? Hasn’t specified yet
現実世界でも幸せにしてください ね? - reverse dating game Isekai (char comes to real world)
崖っぷち令嬢は黒騎士様を惚れさせたい! - fantasy thing. It’s ok, this in but sure where the yuri is exactly Update: the first few chapters are hilarious and I highly recommend!
小春と湊 わたしのパートナーは女の子 | L23 - age gap (20 & 30). Two women living together, enjoying life, great character design, and super wholesome afaict.
アンドロイドは経験人数に入りますか?? | L21 - ecchi story about an OL and a sex android falling in love with each other. Not sure how I feel about premise, but giving it a try
Since last posting here I have finished 後宮の烏 2 | L35 and 後宮の烏 3 | L35 - which I enjoyed but probably shouldn’t have read back-to-back, and ダブルブリッド〈2〉 (電撃文庫 な 7-2) | L34 which was fine, I guess, but I’m also not really sure that it was a story worth telling.
Will move on to 竜歌の巫女と二度目の誓い2 薬を探す子供 | L32 - really liked the first one, and looking to close out some series before moving on to all the new shiny things in my recently expanded 積読 pile.
I think this is a case of where the individual chapters are being published individually as well as being collected in formal volumes, and you wind up with someone accidentally adding the chapters listing to Natively instead of the volumes listing. (Here’s volume 5 of the series, for instance.)
I usually ask for them to be removed when I see them, though maybe they’re useful to some?
Yes that’s exactly it, but it had been soooo long since vol 4 that I was beginning to doubt. Anyway, great to know it’s out. Thx!
I am definitely tracking the individual chapters on here (tho will also purchase and add vol 5), and it was useful when I was getting caught up, for finding and figuring out just how many chapters were out, where I left off, etc before I started buying the magazine. Also the published content may differ between the two (ex: touch ups, small おまけ between chapters, あとがき, magazine text removed, etc)
Which is to say, I hope there’s a double check that nobody’s using them first.
They’re very similar - lots of small mysteries that slowly give more information about the bigger questions of the setting. It’s a slow burn, but it does feel like it’s progressing towards something. If you like the first one I see no reason why you wouldn’t like these, and if you didn’t like the first one it’s not going to change much.
Also though: It was much, much easier reading the next two compared to the first one. Not sure if anything actually changed or if I just know the words now.
Cool. I was kinda on the fence with the first one (I dropped the book club… but I kinda have a habit of that 笑). Being comfier with the vocab definitely would have gone a long way.
I did like the anime, so who knows, maybe I’ll eventually try it again
It’s been a while since I’ve updated here since I’ve been busy and struggling just to keep up with bookclub reads, but I finally have more time again and am back in my reading groove!
I binge read 坊っちゃん | L40 over the weekend and had so much fun (it feels strange saying I binge read a Soseki novel). It was one of those books that I’ve had a copy of forever but never read, which I suspect is the case for a lot of us Japanese readers out there. If you own a copy, maybe this is your sign to finally read it!!
I’ve been reading one story from つめたいよるに | L31 here or there before going to sleep for the past few weeks. The stories are all around 10 pages or less, so it makes for a good bedside table read.
Next I will be reading 小さいおうち | L41. I have already 挫折’d one time with a 時代小説 this year, so hopefully this goes better. I once watched the movie many years ago on an airplane so hopefully my vague memories of the plot will help me out.
Progressing on my “catch up with all the current Yurihime manga I like” mission, I finished 小春と湊 わたしのパートナーは女の子 | L24 and was kinda disappointed. It’s not bad, but it also didn’t make good use of what it has to work with, and was pretty one dimensional.
Haha, I know exactly what you mean! I’d tried reading 吾輩は猫である | L48 and こころ | L39 before, but they both felt slow and didn’t really interest me enough to keep going. 坊っちゃん, on the other hand, is hilarious and was far more approachable language and content wise. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who’s had a similar experience trying Soseki but getting put off.
(I did finish こころ later too, I think reading 坊っちゃん first made it easier to branch out from there.)
It really was! I love me some good drama, doesn’t matter if it takes place now or 100 years ago.
I read こころ first and was surprised by how humorous 坊ちゃん was. こころ was very serious in tone, so it was very unexpected! I need to get around to reading more Soseki this year to see what else he has to offer.
I finished サイレント・ウィッチ IV 沈黙の魔女の隠しごと | L29 yesterday. This volume wasn’t particularly interesting. It was the same fun characters as always, but it felt like nothing really noteworthy happened. There’s clearly some big changes coming soon though so the next volume should be exciting. (I might skip the volume 4½ side story collection and go straight to volume 5.)
Mr.マロウブルー【第3巻】 | L25 is another series I’m getting back to after a break. This series has such a strange mood to it that I always go back and forth on how much I like it, but right now I’m really getting into it again.
I also started Dーlive!! 1 | L25??, a manga I picked up just because of the お前に生命を吹き込んでやる! meme, and it’s mildly interesting so far. A solid 3-star manga, I’d say.
I read 坊ちゃん in English many years ago, and really enjoyed it too.
For some reason, 坊ちゃん getting mocked for swimming in the sento has stuck in my mind as something I found particularly funny
Also, updates from me:
I read my first 赤川次郎, 死体は眠らない | L28 , and enjoyed it. It was incredibly silly, in both good and bad ways. I also think it was a good primer for detective genre, as so many tropes happened.
I also read the main story in あひる | L27 in one go yesterday.
Really wonderful. It’s such a fairytale, I chuckled to myself when modern bits came up (e.g. characters watching TV).
I still need to read the rest of the stories, but I think あひる would be my no.1 recommendation who wants to try out reading in Japanese.
Finally, I’m going to catch up on アーモンド this week too. Happy reading everyone!
I did that. It’s just slice of life stuff, from what I can tell. Nothing of value was lost (there wasn’t even a reference to those in the later volumes)
Has anyone read 転生王女と天才令嬢の魔法革命 | L33 and know how far into the narou version it is? I tried searching for some text from the narou version in the published version and generally couldn’t find anything. I guess it’s probably heavily rewritten. I’ve seen the anime which I think covers the first three published volumes, but it’s still hard to tell. I’m just trying to get a sense of how many volumes the series will be.
