Make sure to leave a review, then! I was interested in the book, but less so now that I know about the rather trashy-sounding romance.
I’ve read plenty of trashy romance, granted, but I walked in knowing that was what I was signing up for.

I’m just passing through and I have to comment on this. My husband bought it on amazon prime just a few days ago, so apparently, yes.
What do you mean by trashy? because it isn’t trashy in the sense I usually understand.
Plus, if you like the premise of the book, I think you won’t be disappointed, don’t worry about anything I said. It’s not the main focus, it’s just relevant to me.
Hmmm. Perhaps trashy was the wrong word? The romance just sounded trite, I suppose.
Started in on
Which has a mix of things. I bought it for the cast & staff interviews for ガールズバンドクライ and 夜のクラゲは泳げない. But it also has things features and spreads with ストーリー紹介 for various current & upcoming anime & characters - a lot of which are unfamiliar. Edit: it’s also full color!!
The interview is really interesting, language-wise. It doesn’t feel to hard, but there’s definitely some expressions, vocab, and grammar that are new for me. Overall I can get through it with a low amount of lookups per passage. It’s really cool to read something non-fictional, but still related to fiction I like.
A little over halfway through
So far I like it a lot better than what I’ve seen of the anime (even having skipped all the filler eps), but they’re both good in their own way. There’s only been one ick moment for me in the manga so far, but definitely more in the anime. The language feels pretty simple, and the text itself is very legible.
I’d say it seems easier than other L25 stuff I’ve read so far. Edit: the one thing I’ll say is that time/location skips are occasionally a bit abrupt. It kinda reminds me of 青い花 in that sense - but at least it’s immediate, and linear… And it’s like school lunch → game center → new location of interest → 神社 sorta thing… so you can still get your bearings
Update: I finished it. It was ok, but felt a bit shallow, and sometimes the transitions made it really hard to follow. It seems like it has potential to get better, but I don’t think I’ll read vol 2 anytime soon. I’ll probably give the anime some more time tho
Ah! Then yes. But it’s just one aspect of the book (probably less than 1/4, or even less depending on what you count, so it would count as “minor” on Natively).
I’m now at around 80% of 阿修羅ガール | L30?? and … I… have absolutely no idea what’s happening anymore. This is the weirdest book I’ve ever read and most certainly not for me. I am a lover of 純文学 and pretty open minded when it comes to literary books so I don’t say this often, but I can’t believe this won a literary prize? It is almost unreal and feels like the author is trolling. Maybe it’ll all make sense in the final chapter?
On the other end of the book spectrum, I finished the audiobook for 成瀬は信じた道をいく 「成瀬」シリーズ | L30 today. I liked this slightly more than the first book and would definitely recommend it to anyone else who read it. It’s a good follow-up!
To follow up on my post above, these are pages from 阿修羅ガール…
does anyone else see what I mean?!
To be fair, ドグラ・マグラ | L50?? has at least one section of that caliber.
I find myself unsurprised by that.
I’ve been bingeing 雨夜の月. Each volume has 4 long chapters, but they don’t feel long (since it’s really enjoyable and engaging), and only having 4 chapters makes it easy to binge (for better or worse). I started volume 4 (which has a super misleading cover by the way), but I’m really enjoying the series.
Mmm, that’s definitely a cover you have to look quite closely at. When I got to that scene, I was like ohhhhhhh. Glad to hear you’re enjoying them as well
I finished
山崎 ナオコーラ’s カツラ美容室別室 | L29
I really liked it overall (I mentioned a minor gripe a had a few days ago).
Otherwise I really liked ナオコーラ’s writing style.
There’s a section where the main character describes bubbles dancing about in the wake of a boat, and how the characters lives feel just like that.
I will definitely read more.
I also read もし僕らのことばがウィスキーであったなら | L28 by 村上春樹.
It’s a couple of essays of his time in Islay, a small Scottish island, and in Ireland.
I felt especially fond of it, since I also went to Islay a couple of years ago, and it is really a special place.
Got through the ガルクラ 声優 interview, and now onto the staff interview - which is a lot harder, bc it talks about real world stuff, and there’s lots of unfamiliar vocab and context. It’s fascinating learning how this series I love so much was conceptualized!
I’m going to try to get more magazines like this in the future (sry wallet!!), and look for more interviews to read online
Finished ch. 1 of 転生王女と天才令嬢の魔法革命 | L33 . Anis just convinced them to let her have Yufi as her assistant. I’m catching up to where I was in the manga, and I can start the next anime ep. soon
Comprehension: Decided to buy the EN edition as well, so I can spot check things, and check if I got context wrong. Since I’m reading with audiobook, I don’t necessarily get everything correct in real-time, and I don’t really wanna go back and reread the whole section. I have to say, some of it sounds so awkward in EN, and I’m so glad I can read it (even imperfectly) in JP!
It feels like a step back, since I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to many things untranslated things recently. But I’ll get too bogged down if I try to reread everything closely. I’ll try to pay better attention tho, and gonna minimize how much I check it. To be fair, I check manga translations sometimes still, so it’s not really any different
裏世界ピクニック has gotten a bit more comprehensible, but still hard. The leads seem like they’ll have a nice dynamic
Started this bc it’s in Yurihime. It’s a sci-fi fantasy, and moderately interesting (I’ve read a few chapters in the middle already). Not bad, but nothing compelling yet either.
This is exactly what I wanted. While I’ve been enjoying the whole series regardless of what part of the plot moves forward, I did feel like it needed some movement in the romance by volume 5 or 6 at the latest. So I’m really happy with how the last chapter of volume 5 went. I was also really curious how 告白 would end up in dialogue since every chapter (I assume based on how many I’ve noticed) has the title of the chapter somewhere in the chapter. I think this was a really natural and smooth way to get Kanon thinking about how Saki really feels about her.
I also caved and started reading 現実もたまには嘘をつく on pixiv. It’s one of my favorite recent manga and the web publication is probably 2+ volumes ahead in content compared to the published volumes. I’ll still buy the volumes when they come out of course, but I didn’t want to wait.
I also fully finished 本好き 30 a couple days ago. I finished the main story a while ago but took forever to read the side stories because they’re not that interesting and I was distracted by more interesting things. It’s pretty annoying that volumes 29, 30, and I think both 31 and 32 contain so many side stories. Not a great way to finish up the series. Either way, I’m burned out and will take a break as planned. Will probably read 1-2 books in English and then 博士の愛した数式 | L34 so I can get a break from action scenes.
I thought that maybe I should take a short break from 黄泉のツガイ and read something else so I don’t burn myself out on it. I managed a full day of reading something else, and today I’m back at it
31 has only a couple, and 32 none.
(Technically, 32 has an original short manga story at the end which I liked a lot, but it’s short so it doesn’t take time to read)
I thought there were chapters after the epilogue, but I’ll take your word for it. I didn’t look closely and just estimated from some HTML element counting since I didn’t want to risk reading chapter titles. That’s good to know then since too many side stories is a drag.
Ohhh cool, I never noticed that… (I’m so lazy about reading chapter titles in the first place )
I have kinda mixed feelings about that cliffhanger, but what can ya do?
